Anyone filming this one? I enjoyed watching those nutters in that link you posted, last time.
-
• #203
Not that I'm aware of. He's riding alone, and I think having any kind of crew following in a vehicle goes against the no idle message.

• #204
The lazy feckers should ride. Those little HD cameras weigh fsck all. :)
-
• #205
Maybe they couldn't find anyone willing to try and keep up with Jay? :]

Been reading a lots about Jay Petervary (as well as Jill Homer, John Nobile, Pete Basinger etc.), they're bloody legend.
Pete was so fucking unlucky, glad he's still alive though, that kind of crash would leave someone dead.

i'm still a little confused about his link with RAAM, he isn't listed as a competator.
Not that I don't think what he's been doing isn't impressive, but after doing a couple of RAAMs and seeing how dangerous it can be for sleep deprived riders I can fully understand why they have the rules that they do have.Good luck to him in the Great Divide, it's one of the greatest challenges on the planet and the one that I think he is best suited to.

Here is Jay P's setup for his divide ride this year.
32lbs as shown with gear and water...very light for a divide setup!
He's done the divide twice before though so obviously has his setup dialed now. -

Jay P is on record speed so far....174 miles PER DAY average! AWESOME!
-
• #210
...and don't forget that's OFF ROAD! On fat tyres!
-
• #211
it's starting already?
going to check the SPOT
-
• #212
it's starting already?
Why do I bother?!!!
:] -
• #213
Just found the live tracker.
I got it confused with the TD, which start earlier!
-
• #214
He's doing it as an individual time trial, following the set rules...which means his time can still stand in the official results.
It would be an even more incredible achievement if he could set a new record having become the first person to race RAAM completely unsupported a few weeks ago and setting a new record in Iditabike a few weeks before that.
The man is a legend! -
• #215
Jay P is currently 13.5hrs ahead of the record pace!!!
-
• #216
And.. come on Scott. I was relying on your for status updates.
-
• #217
Craig last recorded SPOT was 3 days ago, so we have no idea where he is right now.
Scott however was recorded half a day ago, whether Jay's less than that, already more than halfway across the Divide.
-
• #218
Jay was still ten hours ahead of record time earlier today. He finished riding at around midnight last night and booked into a room so hopefully he'll be fresher after some kip and a shower.
He's still sounding strong though. -
• #219
Ha....the last time check had to be wrong as Jay Is now 18 hours ahead of record pace, which is nuts!
Apparently he's said it's not enough though and he needs to go faster. :]
LEGEND! -
• #220
Have Craig dropped out??
His last check-in was 1 hour ago, I'm not surprise!
-
• #221
Don't forget Ed...as far as I know Jay set off a little while after the main race starters.
So long as you follow the set tour rules of checking in and having spot tracking etc you can have your race time count....they class it as an individual time trial.

In fact...looking back...The official race started back in June...I remember now that it clashed with his RAAM which is why he did it this way, so I'm guessing anyone else still on the spot tracker are tail enders or other ITT riders.
-
• #223
Jay P was nearly 2Ohrs up on the record time at the last check...may have dropped a bit of time now due to the trail turning pretty rough and muddy from recent rain...but he's hoping to finish tomorrow night.
-
• #224
I saw his tracker last night, so closed!
-
• #225
Forgot about the time difference...it should actually be tonight that Jay finishes!
I know it has nothing specific to do with the RAAM, but as I've mentioned it more here than anywhere else and I haven't started a specific thread for it i guess here will do.
Jay Petervary is starting the third and final challenge in his 'No idle tour' today.
He will be riding the Great divide MTB trail from Banff in Canada to Antelope wells New Mexico...over 27OO miles of mostly off road trail.
After setting a new record on the Iditarod course for his first stage, and then becoming the first to complete the RAAM completely unsupported, let's hope he still has enough in his legs to put in a great time on the divide.
Good luck Jay!
