This sounds like an excellent plan. Quite dull and very nerdy.
I will try tonight.
Though I don't expect to be breaking many records.yeah, but imagine if we got 200 forumungers all trying to break the record together-- that would be a gag, everyone going for their own record-- and the longest one gets in the record books.
practice, practice, practice

Agreed. I did a lovely no hander today at the lights and all I got was two bouquets of roses thrown from the car behind and a hot female pedestrian who offered to marry or fuck me, my choice.
You'd think they'd have more fucking gratitude.
i was doing a drunken no handed trackstand at the lights the other night, held it for ages. when they went to green i just fell over instead of riding off.
the taxi driver who was behind me pulled up next to me and wound down his window:taxi driver: "you allright mate?"
me: "i'm fine"
taxidriver: "that was really impressive till you fell off."HAHAHA! I need to learn to do this seriously.
^ Ha, so true. Kids think it's awesome. Chavs sometimes find it 'sick blud' too.
I did a tiny wheelie and some chavs on my road said(to quote) 'Rah bruv, that was well bad do that shit again rudeboy.' I replied with, 'Huh?'

the worst id when you get caught trackstanding on a fucking pothole or a camber. the whole time the raod is willing you to come a cropper.

I'm shit at trackstanding, I can only just make it though a lights change, its a lot easier on a freewheel bike. This thread has inspired me to learn to be better! I'm off work tomorrow, my gf will be out, I spy a whole day learning to do it in the lounge. This is what bike forums should be about! Knife Appropriation Fuck Off!
Ah well, just make sure your bike doesn't jack-knife while trying to trackstand. ;)

I finally got a round of applause. It may have been from a cabbie but I'm going to take it as respect for honing my skills.
-
• #82
once you get it, and hold it that first time, it's easy.
i find it much easier on my lo-pro for some reason.
amen brother. monkey arms for the wins. -

i love watching people attempt trackstands and then falling over all casually, like its perfectly normal. I then realise that i cant do a trackstand properly either and stop laughing.

Is it me or is there something weird/horrible/poncey looking about rolling up to lights with someone else and the both of you attempting the jerkiest trackstands? In this case I'd rather stand on terra firma.
Almost like the other's poor efforts sullying your own graceful moves.NB I may be a snob on this one

still cant trackstand downhill consistently on my road bike, never know whether to use the front or rear brake.
-
• #86
front. you basically have to try and rock the front wheel back and forth. its tricky.
-
• #87
the worst thing is when you've been caning it about town for 10 - 15 mins you are all hot and sweaty legs burning everso slightly and you then try a track stand
legs go all jerkey trackstands go to hell and you end up looking like a numpty beginner
it's not that i can't track stand it's just that my legs won't stop twitching -

D lock em. Destroy the evidence and roll away.

I turn round and scowl. Unless I've been having a bit of a jiggle and have moved more than a couple of inches, in which case I'm more embarrassed about my lack of mad skilz.
Never apologise. They are too close to you. Fuckers.

I've been taking my left foot off the pedal and putting it on top of the front wheel behind the forks. Gives you some smooth control when balancing with a freewheel.
It's useless because you can actually get away quicker with your foot on the ground. But I did it at the lights next to a trendy, brakless fixie skidder who had crashed into me earlier on the hipster highway and then burnt off as fast as he could shouting profanities once. My un-cool-road-bike-track-stand stees really pissed him off.

I'm trying to trackstand pretty much everyday and my attempts are pathetic/very wobbly/look more like a wobbly low speed cycling and end in a foot down.....
Should you continue looking (more of) a berk until magically one day it falls into place?
-
• #93
once you've perfected fixed track stands time to move onto single speed track stands

haha, this cracked me up. So true about me as well -

the other day, I got two crumpets out of the drawer, picked up two in one hand, and through them (from one hand) the three metres across to the toaster, and they both landed perfectly in their individual slots. I spent the next hour trying to replicate it. it never happened again. oh well.

As I've been riding gears for the last 2 weeks I know get why people trackstanding at lights on trendy fixies look like complete tits!
will now rest stationary at lights, feet firmly on terra firma when next on fixed
-

Speaking of complete tits...
Coming to the lights at the end of Acre Lane this morning, I took advantage of the lovely smooth new road surface to chuck in a nice long skid to trackstand. Unfortunately I somehow unclipped both feet, nearly threw myself off and managed to come to a stop (in front of the peds), arse on top tube, sort of skating along on my shoes.
Least cool moment for a while.

2 people on the opposite side of the road to me attempted track stands today at the same time whilst at the lights. They were both awful and I had the bonus of their facial expressions, they made me laugh aloud. One (who looked very serious about it) then jumped the red light - I presume his (lack of) track stand talent was about to expire. I think the other noticed me looking and laughing - seemed to amuse him.
I should be a bit more discreet really as I have never attempted a track stand.

That' the most awesome thing on this thread, i hope its true not just some deep sarcasm. Also I dont get how people are finding it easier to track stand on freewheels rather than fixed, how can you rock back and forth?

No, keep putting them in their place! :)
trackstands at the lights are all well and good, but my new dutch courage fueled favourite of the mo is the backward circle. I aint saying Ive got them dialled, Ive badly bailed on a few but I do still smile when I think of a particularly sweet one I pulled halfway up holloway road about a month ago.....
