I missed this, sorry, @cake was there for the search, I wasn't. It's my understanding it was all very amicable, but the whole thing does seem odd. A member of the public basically gave them an unsubstantiated tip off, and they responded by popping round for a quick look round.

I'd wager that if the landlord had been a bit more clued up, then they could have asked, "where's your warrant?", but then you're down a difficult path.

can anyone suggest somewhere / someone to put a tip back on a blade for me (2-3mm snapped off)?

I could reprofile a blade so it has a tip again, I'm not sure if I could put a tip back on though.

Realised that we need steak knives, any good ones that people recommend or all much of a muchness?
Going to Barcelona on Friday so any brands that might be available there would be good..

We got some horrible cheap stamped ones with plastic scales by laguiole. despite the nastyness they manage to do the job well enough so that I haven't been allowed to replace them yet. :(

yeah hoping to avoid that, as we'll only be using them every so often, really don't want something nasty sitting in the cutlery draw

Got some fake horn ones, some of the insects have fallen off, but they stay sharp, so they’re still in service.

I was contemplating a selection of identical opinels for steak and cheese duty.

Nothing tastes better than roughly cut saussison and cheese in a fresh baguette on a long walk (Opinels are optional, but invoke the nostalgia)
