There is a knife village in takefu in Fukui prefecture where you can make your own under the guidance of a master knife maker. Also beautiful knives for sale there.

That sounds pretty epic. All other suggestion duly noted and appreciated.
Cheers!

Got one of these today. Street legal (I believe) and I'm sure will prove to be an everyday useful item. Two and a half inch blade. Army issue.

Tasty piece of kit and contains everything you ever need in a knife. Except a screwdriver. But it has a lanyard, so that's better.

It has a screwdriver for a flat head screw. You can just make it out at the end of the lanyard.

What's the point used for traditionally? Or is that the army part
-
• #1333
It's called a Marlin spike. Used for knot tying. Undoing knots and good for undoing bundles.

Mmmmmm..I thought it was a hoof pick
I have the 1979 issue version, part / nato no 7340 99 975 7402
No spike on it though

Amazing, never knew what the spike was really for!

I use the screwdriver on my Swiss Army knife more than I use the blade. Fid is useful as well. I think I'll get one. Cheers

I'm doing something very similar.....an old axe head, and I'm making a handle from a table leg, and refurbing an old cleaver.....but a narrow one. I'm just researching what type of cleaver it is first, before deciding wether to reshape it :0)

@bfixed If you're still looking for an engraver I used the one linked below for the same purpose - engraving a lovely wedding congrats message onto the blade of a gnarley black steel Gerber machete I bought my best bud (and his new wife). He was more pleased with it than she was...
They did a good job and it wasn't too dear.

I always though it was for closing out hooves too..
Aaron Gough has opened up his order book:
Have had the website open in my browser for days, not sure if I have it in me to spend £300 on a knife!

Nice work on the axe gaston, that haft looks nice. Made me tempted to give my little side axe an overhaul now
Isn't Sakai in Osaka the famous home of knife production in Japan?
