Run far far away from A23. And keep going.
Making a wide and flexy rim is beyond most companies but Velocity managed it. Even Powertap gave up on them.

Powertap specs R460 now because they are an excellent rim. Built a few and they deliver

Has anyone seen or ridden the DT Swiss PR1400 oxic? I understand that they've just been released so chances are no-ones got them yet..

Where can I get 20 silver J-bend 224mm (or thereabouts) CX-Rays ordered to be delivered by Saturday at the latest? As cheaply as possible.
Impossible ask?

Noticed that my LBS laced up an archetype rim the "wrong way round". So the logo reads in the wrong direction. Opposite way round to the other wheel. Apart from not being able to show my face in public due to the shame, there won't be any actual mechanical downside to this?

The spoke holes are drilled slightly offset to help the bracing angle towards the hub, so as long as that has been done properly should be fine. You could always ask them to redo it?

Probably best to ask in the wheelbuilding thread;

George Hall Cycles £2.10 each and they have a spoke cutter/thread roller so can shorten longer spokes. They are showing 224 out of stock but 226 in stock.
They are shortening some used CX Rays by a couple of mm for me right now so I can reuse on a new deeper rim.

Excellent, thanks. Ordered.

Not bad. I like Grails. I do wonder if those Stans hubs are any good? They look kinda like the Novatec hubs...which are OK but nothing to write home about.
edit: these folks seem happy with 'em. Unless you read the second page. Hmmm.

Does anyone know the internal width of those rims? Shimano just says 22.4mm rim width (most likely external). @dubtap ?

Ordered, now I'm in that fiddly situation where I have decent wheels and only gatorskins to clad them in.

Burn the Gatorskins, problem solved.

Anyone used the ENVE rim replacement scheme?

• #7099
I have a pair of the original A23 rims and they are good quality and still as 'straight' as the day they were built. If you dig in the thread you'll find a post I made at the time I received them from the wheel builder. But .. Velocity made some design changes to make it 'tubeless ready', moved production from Australia to the US and now there are reportably a lot of QC issues with the rims.
Sufficient to say when the wheels need new rims I'll be looking at other sources to replace the A23's with.

Right, I've purchased this sweet Bowman Foots Cray from this very forum. Going to run it with 6800 from another bike with cable pull discs however am a bit stumped with wheels. It's got 142 x 12 through axle. I'll only be using it for commuting with guards so won't be seeing any giant cross knoblies . Was thinking of 700c x 25 clinchers. Can anyone recommend a prebuilt wheel set or will I have to have something specially built. I know SFA about discs and things that are non standard. Probs looking to spend £300 max...
Anyone with Velocity A23 rims have any thoughts on them?
Considering a pair 24/28OC as Racotec have them at quite a reasonable price right now.
Spend too much time reading up on anything online though and you'll eventually read enough negativity to believe something is nothing but junk - in the case of A23s there's quite a bit out there on QC issues - uneven brake tracks, general lack of fit & finish, spoke holes cracking, easily dinted, soft..
Still, that's often just a small and vocal %. But it does make me wonder if I should just get some R460s that are even cheaper, or something else - the new RR 411 look ace but hard to get hold of.
