if you're 90kg I really wouldn't fret about 150g
If he were 60kg, he still wouldn't want to fret about 150g on a pair of commuting wheels.

Durano Pluses (23c)
If you're 90kg, the only place you should even be contemplating a tyre as narrow as 23mm is on the front wheel of your TT bike

we're alright on 28's though, eh tester?
another mince pie..?

• #6030
Well the current bike is a Ribble Audax with SKS Chromoplastics, so 23c is all that'll fit under the mudguard without rubbing.
In fact, 23c Durano Pluses got me and the Ribble 1100 miles around Europe fully laden with touring gear inc. tent etc a couple of summers ago :)
The planned new bike (Kinesis 4S disc) should have room for something bigger though.

• #6031
Ribble really got to get their head out of the sandpit sticking to the old agenda that 23mm is "fine".
-
• #6032
Yeah they've been selling the same old (Dolan designed?) frameset for yonks, but it's a pretty good price for what you get and it's sorted me out for commuting, day rides and touring for a few years now. Looking forward to building and riding the Kinesis, but I've definitely got my money's worth out of it (and its 23c tyres) and I haven't really found it wanting in many situations, despite bigger tyres being all the rage these days (and probably better for a fatty like me).

I'd be very tempted by the 30mm Schwalbe S One if it would fit in my road bike :-)
-
• #6034
The Kinesis is definitely a much better bike, actually what the Ribble should be like nowadays.
-
• #6035
Well yeah, the spiritual successor I guess. Worth noting that the Kinesis is £585, whereas the Ribble is only £150 for F&F. When I bought the Ribble there wasn't a great deal available in my size that'd take guards, a rack and have road geo.

All wheel sets 25% off, so the question is arc22 or arc31?
-
• #6037
Had the Arc22 and really happy with it, not very stiff (stiff enough to not worry about it), can't tell you about Arc31.

I thought I should add my experience of the Kinesis disc wheelset as seen a few posts about them. I upgraded from a heavy alex rim set and have had mine for 18 months or so, they made a huge difference. Very light for the money, i paid 230, have been used across 2 bikes for light touring on road, single track and canal paths. Also done some long road rides and commuted most days. I have one bike for everything. I have changed the bearings on the rear and replaced one broken spoke in that time. They have been great for me spin really nicely and get up to speed/get me up hills well. Overall for the money think they are a very good option.

Ditto. Arc22 are fairly flexible but otherwise decent. Only really notice it out of the saddle on climbs

Congratulations on your ill-judged and misguided attempt to generate interest by way of a "survey".
If you'd bothered to look at the Halfords thread on here, you know that most users think you're cunts and spamming the forum isn't likely to change that.
Just out of interest, are you hoping to earn a living in PR/marketing some day?
-
• #6041
Bit of an ovvereaction. Why do you assume its only to generate interest? If he does actually want some survey results how else is he going to get them?
I also don't think they deserve the rep of Halfords. I don't use them much myself but my Dad reccomends them highly. His office is right next to their shop on Oxford Street and is in there pretty often. Says they price match to wiggle/crc without even asking and are always helpful without trying to sell him shit he doesnt want
TLDR: halfords=/=cycle republic

As true today as it has ever been, but we can only keep it that way by coming down hard on people like user59652. Not that he will notice, his work here is done and he'll probably never even log in again.

More rep for Tester. Bastids.

TLDR: halfords=/=cycle republic
"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet".
Regardless of which, even if the survey is genuine (the broadcast media regularly pad-out their content with sham surveys released by PR) then one thread in General is adequate, rather than spamming FBNPNA, stylish cycling kit and the road wheels thread.
-
• #6046
You didn't read what I wrote then. As I understand it, Halfords started the chain to be more cycling based and have a better reputation, and I havent heard any of the bad Halfords rep about Cycle Republic. If you can find instances of Halfords style shoddy work done in their shops then so be it

Any thoughts on this wheelset? Use would likely be a bit of everything commuting, training and potentially a bit of mountains and circuit racing.....
Is this a good one in terms of doing a lot of the above pretty well or am I better to get specialist wheels....
-
• #6048
Some people say they are too expensive. Would buy.
-
• #6049
At that price do one !

http://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/clearance-dtswiss350-32h-pacenti-sl23-wheelset.htm ..... 225 quid with santa13 code until midnight (not spamming, honest! just passing on what seems like a good deal)
Ah ok.
