Hi, Im after a wheelset for not more than 150 pounds, to use for commuting (leaving the bike sometimes locked) and be back in RR once a week. The ride is a Condor Fratello that with the new Tiagra 4700 groupset on the way.
So (stupid dream) light, strong and cheap wheelset... Yes I believe in flying elephants!!!
I arrived to consider:
Fulcrum Racing 7 LG (~£110)
DT Swiss R24 Spline (£139 on ROSE bikes)
Bontrager race (£149 from buyabike.co.uk, even if I do not know this website)
Pro-Build Chosen Hub/Alex CX28 (~150 on Merlin)Was considering the Shimano range as well but I get confused with all the different models and they all seems to be max 20.8 mm wide.
Any suggestion please?

I've been using Racing 5 LGs all year on my road bike and just got an R24 front wheel for a CX bike. Reckon I'd take the DTs over the Fulcrums now. Heavier, but seem better, I haven't really been won over by the Fulcrums yet.

What seems better about the DT's over the Fulcrums?

DT Swiss R24 Spline
I considered Fulcrum LG but went with the DT as they looked like they should be a bit stiffer and there was something I liked better about the hub design, although I can't remember now what it was.

Are Chris King R45 hubs noticeably cheaper in the US? Going there in Dec and wondering about investing. From a bit of Googling it looks like there isn't much in it but I have no experience of good online US retailers and even less of LA bike shops....

Or go for something cheaper that work just as well.
Only nice thing about the CK is the engagement point which IMHO only noticeable when you're riding slowly.

The old man wants a snazzy new set of wheels. I believe his Specialized Roubaix is 11 speed Ultegra, so needs to be Shimano hub. Budget is ±£400, what's best?
Also, I will be needing a set, around the £300 mark (10 speed) for the Eurotrip, heavy mileage, preferably light and a little aero if poss.

Haha. I'm a sucker for bling.

Lolwat.
Éd you buy them so you can colour-match them to your headset and BB.
Let the man spend his money.

to use for commuting

Commute the rims into oblivion, rebuild the hubs into many, many more commuting wheelsets. Factory wheels are basically disposable.

Exactly.
Better off going for something like Hope.

I know someone who commutes on 80mm (yes, eighty millimeter) carbon rims and CK hubs. She rides about 40km a week. But she's a graphic designer so, you know.

You were the one who's worry about whether your rack can cope with more than 18kg worth of luggage.
Thanks
