  • ^ unfortunate. Were the bearings quite stiff too? Mine were luckily dead straight out of the box but the front wheel bearings are quite sticky. Hopefully a few miles will free them up. Nice enough to ride on though.

  • Bearings are super smooth. They've been pretty ace in the speed of reply, sadly I can't send them back till next week. Annoying for sure.

  • Ah, rough ride @eyebrows. Mine were 100% straight and true out of the box. I think it might have a lot to do with the method of delivery.

    p.s. watch the rimtape.

  • Yeah, its definitely UPS at fault. Fuckers.

  • Just received mine too, however DHL obviously took a bit better care of mine. Unlucky.

  • UPS/whatever

  • Those wheels are so mainstream now.

  • Cheap Campag fit wheelset for the winter bike / commuter. Fulcrum Racing 7 LG CX for £120? Any other suggestions?

  • Not bad deal here:
    http://www.merlincycles.com/fulcrum-racing-7-lg-wheelset-with-gp4000s-ii-tyres-tubes-85411.html

£141 at the checkout including conti GP4000s ii tyres n tubes. 23mm though

  • 23mm though

23C tyres on 23mm wide rims are better than 25C tyres on 20mm wide rims, and GP4000s come up a bit bigger than nominal even on skinny rims, on 23mm rims they'll probably be nearly 25mm across anyway.

  • ^this. I prefer 23's on wide rims. 25's feel a bit sluggish handling-wise.

  • I accidentally rode a 20c on a 23mm rims one time. Looked pretty aero.

  • any idea what do 23c tyres say GP4000S measure on those fulcrum LGs?

  • I can measure my 25cs when I get home if you'd like

  • Based on what my 25C GP4000s measure on similar width rims (nearly 27mm), I'd guess that the 23C comes in somewhere between 24 and 25mm

  • Might have to give 23's a go again. Been on 25mm tyres and wide rims for a while and have become used to the plusher ride but I always end up over inflating to get the "feel" back. All in my head I'm sure.

  • I notice that sometime Continental mislabelled their rims, some 25mm GP4000s II come up as close to original, whether a couple of 25mm measured a little over 28mm.

  • but I always end up over inflating to get the "feel" back. All in my head I'm sure.

Take some time to get used to, you mean the road buzz you get from higher pressure?

  • I honestly think Conti measure internal. I say this because all of their race tyres come up a bit larger than expected and all of their touring/hybrid tyres come up tiny compared to rival manufacturers.

  • I measured some things since I have too many wheels at the moment:

    24mm Vittoria Pave @ 80psi:

    RS 3.0 (14mm int): 24 wide x 21 high
    C24 (15mm int): 25 wide x 22 high
    22T (19mm int): 26 wide x 22 high

Make of that what you will.

  • So tiny! 28mm Tour Contact can easily fit a crit frame.

  • It's mental isn't it?!

A 47c (forty fucking seven) Touring Plus comes up the same as a Marathon Plus 35c on the same rim.

So one of those crazy tyre companies is telling porkies.

  • If they are the newer pave's (middle strip is black with green either side) then they're listed as 25.

  • It's the older one - green stripe down the middle.

  • How have you managed to make them last that long?!
