Is there a better price to weight ratio to be had than the Superstar Components Ryde Pulse wheelset?
Rims are 395g. It's not listed but from what I can work out they're about 1400g for £350. Wide too, which is a bonus. And yes, weight does matter to me, more than aeros. Wouldn't mind going carbon if it means similar weight but less drag, but probably not the hassle of direct from China carbon. No tubz.
They'll be the good bike, good weather wheels. Unless it rains during hill climbs in October, but that's not likely... is it?

Challenge latex are idiot (me) proof.

Seems a great price considering it is laced with CX rays.
Cheaper as a whole build than the components seperately.
According to Superstar, the rims are 430g?In which case the Arc 22 wheelset seems better value.

Are vittoria latex inner tubes prone to exploding?
Not in my experience. I have 2/3 wheelsets on the go for different types of riding and because I'm stingy as fuck at the moment I haven't bought any more expensive latex. Therefore, I've removed and re-fitted a set of latex tubes numerous times recently, none of which have resulted in a pinch flat. I always thoroughly check around the rim bed for exposed tube before pumping, and then maybe again after a few pumps of air have gone in.
Also FYI - Maybe I've just upped my patch-game, but I find latex soo much easier to repair than butyl. (with rema repair kit)

Latex is defs easier to patch.

They're the same weight at my current wheels though (Campagnolo Eurus from a few years ago). The Ryde Pulse are a whole 150g lighter... probably 100g of that is in the rim.
Also, would 25mm rims be more suited to 28c tyres? I run 25c at the moment and don't really want to buy two new tyres yet.

25c will be fine.

Does anyone still do deep rims with aluminium braking surface? Like the old HEDs and SRAM S80 stuff?

• #5291
Flo?

How deep?

• #5293
I guess 50-80mm range.

Ah, just need rims too.

The tyres are pricy to buy and you should use tubeless compatable rims. On paper they're not as quick rolling as the very quickest clinchers + latex inner, but not far behind. I used standard Schwalbe r.1's then the tubeless version and couldn't feel a difference in rolling or grip. You should also put new sealant in them every 6 months. The main plus's being an almost complete lack of punctures, no pinch flats and being able to use slightly lower pressure.

Sounds good to me. New wheelset coming soon is tubeless compatible, but I think I'll sort out the tyres with a clincher set first before going actual tubeless. Cheers.

80mm deep enough for you? They're available in a variety of widths too.
No mess at all. Put tyre on, fill with sealant through valve, pump up and go.
