A quick progress update.
Comparing the 2 wheelsets, the spokes on the Cosmic Carbones are noticably closer to the deraileur when compared to the Ksyriums. The Ksyriums were bought new last year, have had little use and run nice and true.
I mentioned above that I had replaced the gear hanger and, to get the wheel square to the frame, had 'adjusted' it a little with a round file. I did this using the Cosmic and when I swap wheels I can now see that the Ksyrium doesn't quite sit right with the frame. I'm guessing that it's the older Cosmic that's out and maybe if I'd had the new wheels when I replaced the hanger, no adjustment would have been necessary.
So, I've ordered a new hanger and we'll see how the Ksyriums sit in that. The Cosmics definately need truing up - I bought the bike second hand from a medal winning World Masters rider so there's a good chance the wheel's had some serious wattage through it in it's lifetime.
I have some other skewers that I can try and may well splash some cash on new ones too although the tax man said to stop spending and give it all to me just the other week.
So, I may have been a little unfair to hurl the flexy comment at the Carbones. Although they are not as stiff as other wheelsets they are certainly not made of jelly.
This thread also made me get the summer toy out and go ride it earlier and riding what, in it's day, was a top of the range bike with some high end components is a real pleasure!

What do people think of easton ea50/70 wheels?
Probably be 70's as the 50's has red hubs :/ yuk!!!
Ow and where would I get '1mm spacer for 10 speed'? eBay etc?
-

New wheelsets usually come with the 1mm spacer required.
Oh and I loved my Easton EA70 set

Just noticed both of you had, not have?? Any reason?

I was short of money, so sold them to Sumo :)

The bike they were on was too large for me so sold them on the bike to Heavisides.

The flex you described did sound odd. Glade you've tinkered with thm. They should be decent wheels.
Also. I've had a sneaky winter ride on my BMC. Such a pleasure after lugging a winter bike around.

Ffffuuuuuu! I missed out on the black RS30s in the Planet-X sale. My rims are pretty worn and I need some new wheels for commuting. Any suggestions for wheelsets at a similar price?

It tends to come with the cassette rather than the wheel.
If you need to buy one you can get hold of them:

Very nearly took the road bike w/ RS80s out this morning, but I still need to back the cones off a bit on the rear and didn't have time this morning. Such a nice day.

It's almost time- I belted round Richmond Park last Sunday on the "proper" bike, makes a difference riding a bike 4kg lighter than the one you've been riding for the past 4 months.

Sadly I'm about 4kg heavier than when I put the good bike away for winter. I like to think it's all muscle but I'm not sure muscle on the waistline counts.

I'm currently on Mrs Smallfurry's BSO, pulling a child trailer. The thing weighs a metric ton, has 5mm of flex in the bars/stem, a shite suspension seatpost that you cant lock out, a dodgy drive train, and awful flat pedals.
Its like cycling custard.
Spring is here though. I can tell because its been raining all day, instead of snowing all day.

She bought it. I tried to push the budget up, and advised against all the cheap springy bits.
....also, she suggested attaching the trailer to the black and yellow bike. I cried.

Did you tell her not to spend all that money on bikes?

I said she should order it in bits off Ebay, and keep as much as possible under her desk at work, so her other half doesnt cotton on.
Then claim to have put it together out of the magical parts bin.

Have a look at Campagnolo Neutron's too (do a web search) - you can get them with Shimano free hubs. I have had a set for getting on 5 years on the winter bike and never needed a true. The hubs are as smooth as anything .. and they are a reasonable weight at about 1550grams.

Oh Yes. Looking forward to getting these bad boys laced up to my rims :)
The frames full of beef steak.
