  • Try not to get ahead of yourself about the wheel, I do agree it'll be a noticeable difference, but not as big as you make it out to be, the extra width mean you can run 25mm that'll feel more like 28mm (Vittoria open pave for one).

  • Normal pads, just a clever holder design.

    How does it work?

  • They had already seen who knows how many 1000 miles with Doubletap riding them too.

    Shots fired.

  • Considering we've been considering cheap, aero wheels, what do people think of these results?

Seems quick and light, considering they're carbon/alu rims.

    That's a lot to consider

  • How does it work?

    Magnets*

    *Not actually magnets.

  • Can't tell if serious... DT Swiss freehub bodies are like Gorgonzola.

    Which ones?

Also, both of you; powertap bearings- where can I haz?

If I told you I'd have to kill you. #secretsquirrel

I have 9 PT bearings sitting at home when I bought a 10 pack for the last swap I did. You're welcome to a couple if they fit - think they're the older style so the size might've changed. Otherwise ebay.

  • Well, Ive taken the plunge. New wheels will be with me by tomorrow or Thursday evening.

Pretty excited. Forget the fact they're the same value as all the other components on my current bike combined, I cant wait to test them up some hardcore hills.

Will review once Ive had a ride or 3

  • *Didn't go for custom jobs in the end but they are hand-built and quite a bit tastier

  • Right, flying in the face of the forums received wisdom, looking at this wind-tunnel testing I should purchase 700x23c Continental GP 4000-S?

Also, I need to change the freehub to the 11 speed Shimano, but they don't have any in stock - would it be insanity to machine off 0.85mm of the cassette stop?

  • Is it really flying in the face of received wisdom? GP4000S is a good all round tyre. It also tested quite well at swissside. Interestingly, the 'TT' tyres did badly on aero performance with both wheels. On the other hand, are these grooves on the side of the current GP Supersonic aerodynamic trips?

As usual with aero testing, more questions than answers, and still the only way to be sure is to do your own testing with whatever combination of wheel and tyre meets your other selection criteria.

  • More the hatred directed at Conti by Hippy, AndyP, etc etc.

I've just picked up a set of Flo30 to be training and wet weather swapouts for the HED Stinger 4's.

  • Part has been replaced by GP4000S II.

If they're training/wet wheels what the hell are you worrying about piddling aero advantages for?

  • Part has been replaced by GP4000S II.

Received wisdom seems to be that GP4000S2 isn't significantly different from GP4000S, i.e. same carcase, same compound, same tread, different colours and logos.

  • Nein.

    Aero all the things!

    Twice as likely to explode?

  • If they're training/wet wheels what the hell are you worrying about piddling aero advantages for?

To offset the aero drag of my enormous stomach

  • On a serious note I bought a pair in Germany which I will change for my 3000 miles puncture free four seasons soon.

  • Aero all the things!

Yeah, I'll remember all that tunnel time when I pass all the sportive riders with their 808s and aero tyres while I'm riding my mudguarded, 32h, 28mm Durano Plus Kinesis, Shiv sitting nice and dry at home..

  • So, GP4000-S, and damn Hippy for a Wendy when it comes to German tyres.

    Now, 23 or 25?

  • I've not done clinchers for a while.

  • 25 had lowest rolling resistance in a Tour test.
