I had never thought about what the inside of different cassettes look like.
This, for example, is insane!

SRAM with the good shit, as per usual

I've got an XX cassette on my CX bike, it's a thing of (engineering) beauty. Quite noisy, mind.
However, the steel XX 11-32 is lighter than my titanium 11-25 7900 cassette.

All SRAM cassettes make your bike sound like a tractor.

If you liked XX, wait till you see X-Glide. The 1190 11-25 I've got on my Zipp 808 weighs 149g. It's like an XX crossed with a Powerdome cassette.

Lolz. They might work out how to make a chain soon.

Ok, that's impressive.

You mean, as opposed to getting KMC to do it for them?
-
• #2960
Shimano and Campagnolo manage and the result is quieter, slicker shifting and lasts longer.
So... yeh.

• #2961
Have Shimano figured out quick-links yet?
-
• #2962
KMC make what Shimano/SRAM ask them to.
-
• #2963
^^ No. SRAM for the
convenient bathing of chainswin. -

Going back a few hours, I got pacenti SL23's on chris kings with cxrays for my road bike t'other week - they're ace rims. I can't compare to archetypes but they at least won't look like crap on the braking surface as the anodising wears off.
I'm also running them tubeless with stans tape and ultremo ZX tubeless tyres - works an absolute charm, though expect to use a lot of flowery language in persuading the tyres to get on to the rim in the first place. -

I'd like to see what that would do to a freehub over time. I'm guessing that it would chew it up a fair bit. -
• #2969
I've used Powerdome cassettes on Zipp and Powertap hubs for many, well, hundreds of miles and they seem fine so far.

On the subject of freewheels and particularly ABG ones
Dutch speakers; does this thread on Fiets.nl suggest someone was able to swap a standard Novatec freehub into a Powertap hub?
The pictures suggest so but Google translate results are (as usual) a bit ambiguous with some mentions of "squeaking".
Yes, it says that they work. More specifically, it says they use the same bearings. The pictures show the swapped freehub bodies.
The squeaking, by the way, is only a dutch expression lost in translation. It means the swap was effortless.

It's easy to avoid all this acrimony - just buy Wippermann chains :-)

24 spoke front, 28 rear too? As a fat bastard (110kg) I can highly recommend. Not floppy at all even at 42 mpg downhill and works fantastically well with swissstop pads. Evolution (distributors) will build to your spec but mine came in at 990g at the front, 1360g on the rear, with 11-28 ultegra cassette and ultremo zx tyres and stand tape. Bare weights with tape were 740/860 using brass nipples

Stans ZTR Arch EX 29er Rim, unsuitable for running a CX tyre?
-
• #2975
Yeah, same spoke count and everything. Fancy selling me your wheels?
Yeah, but can they cope with
Surely the ultimate test for any hub ;-)
