  • Anyone tried the Wheelsmith Race 23's? They look good for the money
    http://www.wheelsmith.co.uk/race23

  • If i was looking to spend that much I'd get mono rs' to pacenti sl23's with cx rays

  • Basically just Archetype copies, by the looks of it.

  • Just get the amboriso hubs instead.

  • there is that ed, but I'm gonna stick up for the mono rs' in that i'm easily suckered by a sound

though jb's right, they're like archetypes but 1mm wider and taller and 30 grams lighter, but almost £40 more, in reality, ambrosio to archetypes is a very good wheelset and the marginal weight gain probably doesn't count for the extra cost

  • Yeah and I'm suckered in by the SL23s because Pacenti are hip - so I may very well get some Pacenti's laced to some Novatec's.

  • I have the SL23, they look like a much better made version of the A23, internal width is slightly wider too.

Only downside is that it's a lots of money for a rims.

  • I want some Pacenti sl23's built with CX rays onto something, but I can't decide what hubs. I know ambrosio ones are perfectly good, but the bike they're going on is covered in Chris King and Evne, it needs something a bit more bling. I'm leaning towards Tune hubs if I can get my hands on some, if not them then maybe some Hope's or even Chris King's (if I can find some much cheaper than RRP).

I was having a look at the Pacenti's today and they're really nice in the flesh, they're meant to be good for tubeless too.

  • No Jaybeh, 'merica has given you a warped sense of fashion 'now' - Pacenti's are so A/W 2013 .. Flo 30's are hot right now ("you can't even pre-order that shit, bro")

How about White Industries T11? I think they are a really nice hub for a handbuilt wheelset at this kind of price.

  • (with the possible exception of Hope) anything between Novatec and Chris King is a big fat waste of money.

  • Yeah, Dan, you're right. So I'll just have to go for CK's. Will possibly order some to my sister's and have her send them over from Murica hehehehe

  • How often should I replace bearings on novatec hubs? I have done about 2300km on them; they are running true and fine but is there sort of like expiry date on bearings?

  • Defintely, the amboriso is as light as the Hope, have a little less of the hope buzz, and last just as long.

Amey, if they feel rough when you held them, you'll know, it should feel buttery smooth.

  • yeah but Tune's look so nice

Replace them when they are fucked, could be anything from a week to a century (that's a hundred years, not 100 miles) depending more on the conditions than the riding time/mileage.

  • perfect; cheers

  • yeah but Tune's look so nice

PITA to get parts for / service though.

  • I'm now on my third front rim and second rear on some 5 yo Dura Ace hubs on the spring summer bike and the grease is still perfectly clean and there's no play and they spin forever.

    Angular contact fo lyfe

So does having money in your banks account.

If they had been disc braked do you think you'd be on the original rims still?

  • yawn

  • Genuine question Dan, I'm interested in the failure mode, not making whatever point you consider too boring for this thread.

  • Aero nerds and Tester: http://www.wheelsmith.co.uk/aero-60-clincher

Close enough to the real wheels to offer a decent aero advantage?
