I'm not on that much of a budget. I want carbon and deepish sections purely for vanity.
Bear in mind that those circuits are basically pile-up central, so whatever you buy you need to be able to replace them without feeling the hit in your wallet.

I was thinking about racing in the Crystal Palace crits next year, for which I am considering using an entry level Allez due to the potential for carnage.

I would be more worried about breaking me than the bike

Not really the case if you are self employed

That's why I'll probably be on your old Pro Lite with cheap-ish carbon wheels. That bike is a tank.
If I wreck a PX rim, I know I can replace it without too much expenditure and get someone to rebuild it for me.

I'm a bag of nerves even watching racing at CP.

I was also thinking that an Allez would make me less of a laughing stock than my MAMILwagon.

Most people are too busy breathing through their arse to laugh at someone else's equipment choices.

Which version? the Claris or Sora?

So, having spent some of Christmas riding H Plus Son Archetype rims around Yorkshire and Kent, I now have what sounds like quite a lot of water sloshing around the 'aero' section of the rim.
Am I right in assuming this isn't a particularly good thing (i.e. the water should be drained)?
Any tips on how best to drain rims? I have currently made a couple of small holes in the rim tape, aligned with the spoke nipple, and have pulled the tyre/tube back leaving the wheel upright (with holes towards the floor). Bit of a pain to do that after every wet ride though...
Where does the water get in? Is there a way to seal this up?

Anyone had an experience of Pro Lite Braccianos? Heard nothing but good things about them so I'm thinking of picking some up for when the weather sorts itself out.

I've got the same thing happening. With mine it's been dripping out through the nipples and leaving puddles in the kitchen. I'm guessing that the water is getting in through small gaps between the nipples and the rims.
I'm going to try your approach of small holes in the rim tape, but you're right it doesn't seem like an ideal solution.

After doing a fair bit of research, I wanted to buy a pair of those a couple of years ago as a sort-of 'lightish' do-it-all wheelset. Unfortunately everywhere was out of stock at the time and I went for Easton EA70's instead. I assume they've maybe got a little lighter since then, so I'd definitely get a pair If I was still doing lots of miles. However I am not.

Looks a bit extreme, but given I'm sure I got more water in the rims yesterday, I'm almost tempted to give it a go ;)

Good day all :) Im in a bit of quandary on choosing a winter wheelset and need a bit of help!
I have a maximum budget of £110 and came across the following suspects - what do you think?:Ambrosio VARO

Campagnolo Khamsin ASY
Miche Excite
Shimano RS21thanks!

R500s are great budget wheels. The price for that rs20 is for a front whe btw. To be honest your better off getting something better second hand.
