Will you ever ride them on the street?

Never

Veloflex.

And glue. Get the Vittoria glue as it's stronger than the others.

tub tape ftw
vittoria chrono

tell us how long it took you to mount recently with glue oh wise one??

I hope Dale's suggestion of tape was a joke.
The orange Conti's I have are Tempo's.

don't listen to the part timers, roadies or never was'ers

I think I fit into all three categories! -

lol
thanks all for your advice.
I found a guide on the internet to mounting tubs with glue and it does look a little tricky. Just a case of practice I guess -
• #12
I've heard this site is good telling you how to glue them on

not very long at all, once I had enough glue.
mike can learn from my mistake and get a large tub (with brush) so he doesn't run out half way though

A tin of Vittoria glue, a couple of modelling brushes (or similar) and you'll have them mounted in no time. The parktool link that Rob posted is good.

I'm part way through gluing my first set of tubulars at the moment; second coat went on the rims this morning and I'll get them mounted tomorrow morning so they have 24 hours to properly cure.
I found it surprisingly relaxing sat on the front step in the sun with a beer. And a faceful of solvents :)

That's why glue is better than tape. Solvent abuse ftw!
-
• #18
i've used tufo tub tape a few times, with zero issues. this was recommended by different people, over gluing which is a PITA
-
• #19
the tufo extreme tape seemed very strong to me. not so much the regular stuff.
-
• #20
check FGF, VR...any track forum you like, you won't see tape recommended by people who know what they're talking about
-

For HH some light puncture protection is good, sonderklasse and other sub 200g tyres are too light for there, you will be changing a couple of punctures a season.
RPM's recommendations seem sound to me.
-

I agree with Rob. If you're riding on a 250 m wooden track then glue always ahead of tape.
-
• #23
fair enough guys. solvents are fun.
-
• #24
ok glue it is then. Like the sound of solvent abuse coupled with alcohol.

I have very short patience though so I will really have to try and take my time and get it right
My lovely handbuilt wheels arrived today and I need to get some tubs on them asap.
Can anyone recommend any good tubular tyres to be used at HH. With the occasional jaunt to Newport thrown in?
Price region about £60 per tyre max.
And then, more importantly, can anyone guide me through affixing them to said wheels so there is less chance of them coming off on the track!
