Just to cheer you all up -
I was looking to move flats last year (renting).
Found a nice one advertised privately, but despite it being perfect in every other way it was just a bit too expensive.Found the same one advertised by Foxtons a few weeks later for a bit less, as it clearly hadn't been let at the advertised price.
Got Foxtons to give us a lift round and had another look. Told them it was too expensive, but thanks.
Then phoned the landlord (we still had his number from the original private ad) and suggested we make a deal between ourselves as we would then both save on Foxtons fees. He sounded quite surprised, as if the thought hadn't crossed his mind. With a little negotiation we got the flat, for a mutually agreeable price.

I did that with my current place, told my landlord that townends were the most useless f*ckers in the world and that we should just arrange something ourselves. After a 12 month cool off period we were saving ourselves £200 pcm on the original price and he was still getting more in rent than he was with the agents.
FAct is since the government deposit scheme there's no real need for agents, the most useful thing they used to do is mediate the conversation in a disagreement.

Ah c'mon, estate agents aren't that bad. I had very good service off a company called Foxtons. They have really snazzy offices and drive these wonderful little Mini's.

Not going to be popular here, but I was really happy with the service I got from Foxtons. Maybe I just got a good estate agent. He very quickly knew what I wanted, He showed me 6 places, I made an offer on three of them (and got the third one). And in terms of selling my old place they piled in the viewings, I must have had about 30 in a couple of weeks.
Also I loved the free drinks, even when I came in just to drop something off.

Don't even get me started on car mechanics
They are not all the same, when I owned a van (or my old company did) the guy that did the mot and service every year was spot on.
A far cry from the mechanics at the dealership it came from originally:
After a month the gears start getting very stiff and will hardly go into 1st and 2nd.
I take it back and say "gearbox is on it's way out" (should be fine it's under warranty)
They say "oh it's because that rubber mat isn't the proper one and it's stopping the clutch pedal going down all the way that's causing the problem" They have moved the mat in the footwell, but despite this outstanding bit of engineering the gearbox is the same.
I laugh and take it back.
They say "oh it was the wrong kind of oil in the gearbox, we've now changed it for some synthetic oil and everything is OK"
By the time I get it home the gearbox has all but seized and is making a noise like a tin can factory.
I take it back (or rather they come and collect it with a transporter) and say "gearbox is on it's way out, in fact it's already gone"
They say "oh the gearbox is gone" and put in a new gearbox, which works forever more, regardless of third-party rubber mats or what kind of oil is in it. -

Just had the worst fucking commute. First, what the fuck are the traffic works at St. Pauls station, I'm heading east, I don't want a diversion taking me back to holborn road. Had to jump up on the pavement to Cheapside, turn around again and follow my normal route by cannon street, then there were cones blocking off 1 lane of traffic across the traffic lights; no restriction on turning, purely just to make it awkward.
Then I nearly got hit by a cunt in a BMW going about 50mph.
The a bus tried to run me down by the Sainsburys in Whitechapel. I was sat in front of it in the ASL in the lane to head straight on waiting for the lights. Then suddenly the bus comes up right behind me, like inches from my wheel while it was still red, hell, even the green man for people to cross was on. I turn about and shout "what the fuck" to the driver, to which he responds by pointing at the turning left signal for the lane of traffic our left, separated by a good couple of meters of concrete and metal railings. So I pointed to him, then to our red light, and again he just points to the green light for turning left while mouthing something at me. I decided just to sit in front of him and see if he's stupid enough to run me down until it was our green light.
The worst bit is, he wasn't just a shit driver, trying to turn left where you physically can't, but he was driving the 25, which goes straight on, same as me. -
