Jo I have some v-brakes you can have, might need some new pads...they are the cheap shimano ones, but they do the job...
Or if they are for your winter pomp build, I have some canti brakes that would be sweet...say £20 for them as they have pretty new pads etc...then also you can run short pull levers...

don't know of anyone, pavey in hardwick used to but i think he's retired.
is it worth getting repaired cost wise?Cost wise? Probably not, but as that is the only issue with an otherwise ok frame im tempted to spend. Of course I havent investigated the bottom bracket yet so that may change things. I was hoping for a frame repair and respray for under £100.

Apparently some motorbike repair shops are happy to do frame repairs for a reasonable charge. I am happy to do a paint strip and paintjob myself. A mate of mine has a paint kit, air compressor etc, and i have an airy garage away from the house (and child).

Where are they located?
Also after a trawl of the net i have decided it's worth getting this frame repaired. It's a Schwinn Traveler, that is pretty rare over here in the UK, getting one from the US of a similar vintage would cost more than getting the frame repaired/resprayed.

milton.....when i took mine in they already had 3 frames being painted.
i think it has survived 2 winters - the finish is still shiney and only the odd ping in the paint. they also powder coat toogive them a call they might know someone who will re-do your frame

Getting a bar end lever from Wardy later this evening, but realised I probably need new bar tape for my bullhorns.
Does anyone have any? Not too fussed about colour, but preferably black or blue.
I'm hoping to pay about a fiver, but could be tempted to pay more if someone has something that's worth more. -

New tape from Bicycle Ambulance is only £8 and you can pick the colour... ;)

Thanks for the tip. I'll seek harvey out. Hope he can help. In my un-informed opinion the stay looks like it has just come away from the frame, as opposed to actually fracturing. So hopefully a braze job will sort it. I have been stripping the bike down today, but need a few extra tools to get the last bits off. The rest of the frame looks okay( rusty but solid) no dents or dings or any crash damage. Fingers crossed for a good result.

That's true, it's just finding the time to cycle out there, it feels like I'm either at uni or work constantly at the moment.
In reality I could probably have gone at any point today, and could also do so tomorrow.New tape from Bicycle Ambulance is only £8 and you can pick the colour... ;)

~~I saw you outside the Blue sandwich shop on Hills Road. I remember the bike as I'd recognise one any day.
I have a love/hate thing with Schwinn frames, I always wanted to do a conversion on one but couldn't afford to import one. They are so weird.~~
I take it all back, there is someone in Cambridge with a dark red singlespeed Schwinn conversion too. I just saw your photographs and realised it's not the same frame.

Also, with regard to painting it, I would always make the journey to Armourtex in Hackney. I've had two frames powdercoated by them and they've both been very good. Normally a three day turnaround.

I got the bike at a bike sale in Histon on Sunday. A guy there had a load of old classic bikes, frames and stuff. I thought the schwinn stood out from the others and went for it, obviously without checking to closely. Apart from the seatstay though it's in pretty good condition and i hope i can get it back on the road eventually.

Mind if I butt in and ask who is best to fit some bottle cage mounts to some old steel frames?

think you can get straps that go around the frame and bottle holder....
I'm looking for front and rear v brakes and levers if anyone has any to sell?
