probably i guess for barefoot natives they are an unessential purchase and just a symbol of the white peoples oppression

Either Cyclefit or a Specialized BG dealer will be able to sort you out with cycling specific footbeds James. I'd second MrSmyth's recommendation for them, they really do make a massive difference to the efficiency of your pedal stroke and would, I'd think, help you with the longer distance comfort.
Yeah i'm pretty sure thats the route i'm going to go to be honest, if i'm going to do it i'll need to do it properly, and have it all custom fitted due to my messed up legs, I was looking on their site and really like the look of these:

Anything that can give all day comfort looks like a winner to me, and the walking sole looks ace also :)
Not bothered about any of that carbon fibre lightweight bollocks, as long as its supportive and comfy, and it will no doubt be a massive improvement over my super-fucked™ trainers with zero support, and straps. -

I'm thinking of going the whole hog with clipless pedals/shoes on my current bike, getting my riding position etc properly analysed, and getting my shoes/pedals fitted by them.
It will be interesting to see how they deal with me as I think my legs and my pedalling motion may come across as a bit odd to them, I have major damage in my right lower leg in the muscles used to stabilize my right ankle, plus my left femur bone is just over half an inch shorter than my right femur bone, this also creates a slight imbalance making my left quadricep about 20% stronger than my right.
I'll let you guys know how I get on!Eileen!

It's an old joke James, what do you call a girl with one leg shorter than the other? Eileen!

Was there last night
you have Julian doing your fit
gave him the warning that you are more scar tissue than unblemished flesh or bone.
Jules did my fit, he is a serious roadie so does not understand my interest in being a fixie skidder

Awesome, cheers dude, really looking forward to this, be great to get these pedals/shoes/bike properly set up for my well used and abused body :)

Flipping awesome!
Very impressed and intrigued by Julians knowledge of bio-mechanics in relation to cycling, the orthotics and wedge system they used to stabilize my feet, compensate for leg length differences, and alter the incorrect pronation in my right foot, worked really well and made a huge difference.
Most of all I was amazed at the difference a good saddle can make to your pedal stroke!
I had a weird movement in my hips, causing my knee to jar from side to side a little (which is obviously not healthy), most likely from the compensating I had been doing due to a lack of correction for my leg length/muscle issues in my legs. Switching to a Fizik Aliante seemed to almost instantly make a massive difference in addition to the awesome orthotics I had fitted.
What was really impressive and interesting, was the depth of the assessment and seeing how riding the way I had with my normal set up (without correction for my leg/ankle/feet issues) I had been putting 65-70% of my power through my left leg, ridiculously inefficient!
Before I tried the new saddle, the increase in seatpost height and the orthotics corrected everything so I was drifting around 52/48% (left to right) power distribution, which was a huge improvement...
However it got even better once we whacked the new saddle on, I went to pretty much perfect 50/50 sometimes hovering to 51/49% power distribution between my two legs.
I was massively impressed and could feel the huge difference in efficiency and comfort right away.Worth every penny, my ride home was like a whole new cycling experience :)

so how long until you get a fitted frame?
you can take those spec anywhere now...
-
• #64
also how far off were you from the correct fit?

That's crazy, James.

I'm thinking February/March maybe....its very very tempting
also how far off were you from the correct fit?
Not too far at all actually, i'll check the form later, and post the exact differences but it was pretty close, I think I needed a 1cm longer stem and maybe an extra 1-2cm higher seattube on the frame depending on how much seat post I am happy to have showing, as the saddle to bar drop was pretty much spot on I think, will have to double check to be sure.
Was that you I saw rocking up on your road bike to go into cyclefit as I was standing by my bike chatting on the phone?
If it was sorry for the weird look, I thought it was you but I wasn't 100% sure! -

That's crazy, James.
Indeed, indeed!

Now you only need cycle training and you'll be a changed man. :)

I already haz Lycra and clipless........what is the world coming to.

I was thinking of the same question Jay! :P

• #71
where did you actually go for the fitting, James - you might have said but i can't find it.
was it cyclefit? -
• #72

-
• #73
Yup cyclefit, and very good they were to :)

Nice but maybe a little far for London peeps considering he's in Milton Keynes and Cyclefit are based pretty much smack bang in the centre of London.
