  • was fast for what i was used to, mostly due to stiffness probably.

id be more than happy to keep the weight down on a Vigorelli though, especially on the wheels

  • I'm sure it must be a royal pig to ride.

must spread rep before giving it to edscoble again.

  • was fast for what i was used to, mostly due to stiffness probably.

Exactly, stop worrying about the weight, it's only important if you're going to strap it on your back and let it ride you instead.

  • ^ Prize for those who get the message I'm trying to convey.

  • What were the reasons for you selling your Dolan, and what do you hope to gain from a Vig that you didnt get from the Dolan?

Just saying this because while the Vig is a bit more high end they are pretty damn similar bikes really. I thought you wanted a Brother?

  • never been that bothered with weight, but i am spending like £500 on this frame...

Sold my Dolan a few weeks ago. was such a good frame but i don't miss it, I did want a Brother, but sick of waiting for them to bring a new one out and i'm getting a Gitane Track from Rogan on here now for just riding around locally, then i'll use the Vigorelli for some serious riding.

i'm able to afford it at the moment, so why not!

  • "6.9kg complete???"

Doesn't quite make sense when you add up manufacturers' claims regarding weight of frame, fork and individual components, but yes.

*Weighed it at numerous occasions using different scales.

  • I remember when sub 10kg bikes carried a WOW factor... Seriously doubt it, that most of us will really notice the difference between a 7kg and an 8kg fixed gear bike for everyday road use.

*Saws off 9.2cm of excess carbon seat post.

  • "{'[(Seriously doubt it, that most of us will really notice the difference between a 7kg and an 8kg fixed gear bike for everyday road use.)]'}"

Exactly, as long it feel light and respond to your input really well, that's all there to it.

  • Wont be for everyday use, well not planning to anyway, but should much faster than my every day bike.

that hole ease of quick speed and effortless feel is something i want to try achieve from this frame, more about the performance i guess

  • "Much faster" is subjective, the underlying message I was trying to says earlier is losing 5kg from your body give you a much better result than losing 2kg from the bicycle if you want the bike to feel effortless and quick to ride.

My Genesis CdF went from feeling sluggish and slow to respond, to taking a lots less effort to sprint and climb when I drop my weight from 80kg to 75kg.

You do worry about the bike too much.

  • but you get what i mean, a Vigorelli will feel 'much faster' than a dolan with cheaper parts

I do worry, but i just want to know what i'm buying is the right choice, i hate it when i waste money on things, especially when it cost £500!

plan is to loose a lot of weight from riding this bike...

  • but you get what i mean, a Vigorelli will feel 'much faster' than a dolan with cheaper parts

No I don't, I really don't, I can't see how it will feel "much faster", they're both stiff track frame.

Parts are parts, unless the difference is vast (like wider rims, different gearing, handlebar shape etc.), cheap does not equal rubbish.

I do however understand the whole placebo effect of a new frame giving you the illusion it feel much faster because you believed it to be faster, like this silly skinny harder tyres = faster lark - illusion.

  • No offence Ed, but you don't give me the best advice about these things

  • Can't go slow on a Vogorilli really... just about the only drawback ;) Well you can of course, but it cries for speed.

  • ^^ he's kind of talking sense (for once - sorry Ed) though. Changing a frame is not going to make you any faster (unless you're moving from a lump of steel to an aero Cervelo frame). Wheels can make you faster, so can overshoes and an aero helmet, but what will really make you faster is training hard and losing weight.

Do you already own a Dolan? If so, just ride the crap out of that until you've lost some weight, then drop the cash on the nice bike as a reward. You'll probably have changed your mind about what you want by then anyway.

  • Having owned a Pre Cursa before my Vig, I can say that the Cinelli is substantially stiffer and feels so much more pleasant to ride.

  • not saying i'll be loads faster by buying this, i mean it will feel lighter and accelerate faster due to all the upgrades.

I said i already sold the Dolan, i did ride the crap out of it last summer, had a rough patch through the winter with my life, id like to treat my self.

changed my mind plenty of times over the last few months, but feel most sure about this.

  • there are physics here that make what you're saying a little impossible to achieve. your bike/components would have to be seriously shit for you to notice a massive change in your ability to accelerate the combined mass of your body and your bike. training hard and changing gearing would effect this. i have a mash and a steel leader. they both go about the same speed and accelerate at roughly the same rate. they just have a different feel. the key factor is what you like. if you LOVE the vig and it does for you like nothing else plus you have £500 just fucking buy it and don't feel you have to justify it - its ok to just like it.

  • not saying i'll be loads faster by buying this, i mean it will feel lighter and accelerate faster due to all the upgrades.

Again, like I said earlier, this is down to your fitness, not your bike.

if you LOVE the vig and it does for you like nothing else plus you have £500 just fucking buy it and don't feel you have to justify it - its ok just like it.

    This.

  • a riders fit on the bike will probably have a more significant impact than the name on the frame. a good set up for the rider and the intended type of riding would be a good idea.

  • Certain bikes "demands" speed, not that you'll be any faster as such, but you just can't help yourself giving it full whack; Cinelli Vigorelli is one of them... It's a little bit like driving a super car really.

  • If you just want a nice bike to ride, then buy it.

Having a beautiful, well-maintained and built bicycle is one of life's great pleasures.

  • Aches is partially right, even if his bike only 'feels' faster this is certainly enough for his head to do the rest of work via placebo effect

ah, sorry, just saw what ed wrote up there somewhere mentioning the same

  • "Much faster" is subjective, the underlying message I was trying to says earlier is losing 5kg from your body give you a much better result than losing 2kg from the bicycle if you want the bike to feel effortless and quick to ride.

What Ed is trying to say is:

    ;)
