is there some sort of formula...
sloping TT/rush of blood to the head/heightened juvenile instinct?

• #1053
Yep.
It looks fast to simple minds*
*not the cheesy old band

does that mean any lo pro with 700c front and rear have that have sloping top tubes are just that, unecessary?
I don't know enough about frame design to give you a properly informed answer, but it's my understanding that having it sloping the other way would make it possibly stiffer by reducing the size of the triangle, and also making it lighter by using less material. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, etc.
But I do see (and partly agree) with your point about hater's hating.

In the end, buy what you want and ride the fuck out of it.
Even with all the fuss surrounding the MASH, I'd still own one if given the chance.

Assuming a headtube length remaining constant, the fact that the top tup slopes up, down or is horizontal will make very little difference to how a bike rides. It is purely for cosmetic reasons (although standover height may be a physical reason for sloping down)
I too would not say no to one. I would however buck the trend and build mine up proper nice like.

Is that true? [genuine question]
Surely Head Angle and Seat Angle are usually different(?). Altho I get it'll probably only make the slightest of difference, both on tube length and probably none on 'ride' .
-

The sloping top tube comes from pursuit bikes right? low front ends for running bullhorns, whereas in the past they had 650 or 24inch front wheels these are no longer track legal hence to move to twin 700s.
correct me if I'm wrong, as this is just what I understand of it all.
differences, whereas some of these 700c lo pro frames are built to be ridden on the track with bull horns/pursuit bars, others such as the mash, with less extreme drop, are more designed this way to look cool.

I don't think the Mash is UCI legal.
It is comfortable tho.

Head tube angle, head tube length and Seat tube angle can all stay the same while the top tube can slope up or down to any degree. This is what I based the statement on.
Draw it out and just move the top tube while keeping everything else constant. -

so I am getting more and more interesetd in the Look 464... the MAsh gets ripped to shreds by so many people saying you can get so much more for your money and it is is just an overpriced hipster ride. OK.
right now people are getting giddy over pistofski's look 464 and everyone loving it. (fare enough he is giving it away at 485 pound) its a lovely looking frame, it really is. but as far as i can see it is much the same as a mash or super pista (that kinda gets the same reaction as the mash) regarding spec although on an inferior alu tubing. or am i wrong?
Look 464: 6061 Alu, frame 1600g fork 360g total: 1960g, rrp 734.99pound
Mash: columbus airplane , frame & fork total 2050g, rrp 720pound
bianchi SP: 7005 alu, frame 1760g fork 560g total 2320g, 750pound approx (although i have seen much lighter specs on websitesSo i have just qouted it as being the lightest of these 3 (although i cant see the SP really being that heavy but thats what i found) but from the mash it is only 90g lighter and as expensive..
my question is does the mash really deserve the hate it gets or is it purely the 'Hipster' attachment it has that brings people to loath it?
i know i have only made a comparison to the look but its getting a lot of love when being sold on here at a cheap price whilst the mash would still get slated to fuck being sold at 485. it would sell but it would get hated too!
or is this just a totally pointless question?!
You missed out :-
Cinelli Vigorelli: columbus airplane , frame & fork total 2050g, rrp 565pound.
That £155 hipster tax buys you a sloping top tube and some Mash stickers

well yes of course. thats a given.

- Shorter wheel base. Steeper seat tube. Different Geo.
Basically, it has the same materials for more money.
What about the Cinelli Supercorsa Pista @1500 dorrar?
For lugged Neuron steel. Twice the price. Twice the hipster? That's tax.

If i had money to burn i'd get a super corsa, but if i just liked the look of them i'm sure you could have something just as nice custom made for less
-
• #1071
Love the vigorelli but not a fan at akll of the mash. Call me fickle but I just don't like the looks of that big ass sloping tube.
-
• #1072
Good point on supercorsa, mash haters served. Somewhat hypocritical, in general, to hate people paying "extra for no performance gain" for a mash while lusting over vintage quilled steel.

• #1073
Thought I'd place my mash in here for scrutiny

or a dose of slamdatstem and some pursuit bars....
Pretty much sums up my experience of riding around on the Fort.... Although the hip-hop has been replaced by SBTRKT for the timebeing.
