One of the main characters in Angry white Pyjamas , is a Canadian Aikido instructor called Robert Mustard probably one of the best Non Japanese Aikido instructors in the world . I was lucky enough to have him stay at my home when he came over to do a weekend seminar in the UK . Tough old bugger , what he doesn't know about martial arts ain't worth knowing . Him and his fellow teachers threw me all over the hall for two days .....but seeing as I trained in Taekwondo was totally out of my comfort zone anyway !
Through Rob Mustard I met Robert Twigger wrote the book . -

@1:22 in the above link. Elbowing a grounded opponent in the face from a standing position. Pretty fucking impressive ... and gutsy.

Re the Japanese thing above , the Tokyo riot police have to spend a year training in Yoshinkan Aikido full time before they qualify . Widely known to be one of the most brutal courses in martial arts . Full time 5 days a week for a year , you have to be a 3rd dan in one art or a first dan in two to get on . Civilians can do as well . A mate of mine wrote a book about doing it , called Angry White Pyjamas deffo worth a read .
read the book its a good read and a brutal training course.

I'm bored at work. Can someone please post links to vids of fights from the last 6 months? Navigating the usual sites is way too confusing right now.

Is anyone else excited for UFC 181? It's the best card in a while. The prelims look pretty good, but that main card!
Stoked in particular for travis browne vs brendon schaub, and the trujillo fight. Shit, all of them really.

It turned out a girl from my hometown fought in the prelims. I didn't even know until I saw her. It was an exciting fight until the end.

Talking to self (not enough mma scums on this here cycling forum). I was looking at some older articles for Joanna Jedrzejczyk, since she is challenging for a title and I have only watched her in one fight. I came across this photo from the one fight of hers that I did see.

Through listening to the Joe Rogan podcast (via Duncan Trussell and Danieli Bolleli), I've become intrigued in this... Didn't realise there was a thread on it here.
Never had any martial arts experience or "had the need to" but elements of it are starting to appeal to me now I'm older for some reason. -

I train jiu jitsu with a fair amount of older guys who do just as well as us younger lads, it's genuinely accessible to anyone, you can go at your own pace and the variety of people you'll meet at a BJJ gym is really unique

By older, I mean not quite 30 :) Where abouts is the gym? I'm in Islington but will cycle anywhere within reason.

Ha! In that case you'll be one of the young bucks. I'm 26 in a fortnight and I'd say I'm probably one of the youngest. I train at Gymbox opposite Farringdon train station

If you're considering training jiu jitsu (which one should :)) then it's one of the best places. I've trained at several renowned locations in London and this is by far the most productive, welcoming and addictive gym. I learned more in my first 4 months there than I did in the entire 18 months of training I did at other places previously. If you're interested, let me know and I'll put a word in, accompany you to a session and give you some pointers. Best to watch a few videos to get a real taste for what it involves before coming along. If you've listened to Joe Rogan's podcasts you'll have heard a lot about it, but this is a nice vid nontheless -
