Only twats ride with worn cleats

  • There's another 5000 miles in them yet.

Not really. The right went the day after the BCM a few weeks ago.

Sell them to Clive, I say.

And the left on Sunday at the top of Ditchling Beacon but it was okay again from the bottom of Devils Dyke for the ride home. So I thought I better change it.

  • Changed my cleats today.

I could have gone another 2/3months with them. A sensation that I was un-clipping a little too easily

This thread is very much in mind and £10 very well spent.

  • Happy New Year.

  • Changed cleats today, thought of @cliveo 's arse.

If your cleats are getting a little worn, best to change them now rather than wait.

  • And look what happened to him...

  • Speedplay Zero V.2 Cleats that are mounted against 3-hole curved shoe
soles with a radius that is too large or too small will bow the Cleat
either inward or outward and the Cleat will not function properly.

Nah, that'll be fine, it's only a small bend...

  • Got hit by a car today, went over the bonnet and landed with all my considerable mass on my right buttock. Cleats are fine, but the pulled my pedals apart, as I came off. Doctor poked my buttock a bit and was pleased that my sphinter ani was still clenchable and assured me I'd be much more sore tomorrow. Changed the cleats anyway.

  • no pic, but very worn cleats. Have probably been slipping out of one peddle on Swain's for about 4 months - tightened the pedal, never thought to check the cleats

Shimano mountain bike cleats - all 4 5mm holes wouldn't take the 5mm key - either too much grit or or the hexagon shape had rounded away. And the 4mm key was too small.

Sprayed vast amount of WD40 on them last night, let it soak, eeked out all the grit.

    Tips:
My batman used a hammer and a 4mm allen key to secure most of them. The last was harder to remove and he used a 6pt key to get the necessary purchase.

  • Re: the last line, he has a new username--have a look at the OP. :)

  • Suggest me some better bolts for my cleats.
I'm tired of rounded sockets and seized bolts. For winter use!

  • It might be time to replace the shoes or go to 'SRS' soles so that the cleat is higher than anything touching the ground.

That and keeping detritus out of them is usually a good bet.

  • Do you grease the threads when you put the bolts in?

  • Filthy talk.

  • So these are worn?

  • This all started 10 years ago.

    Makes me feel VERY old

  • Happy Birthday to your arse scars.

  • Worn cleats piss me off! A good example would be when my cleat broke this weekend making my 300k a DNF. Guess my lesson is to keep a spare cleat in my spares on longer rides.

  • It is one mahoosive scar rather than plurals. Will DM a photo

  • Hmm. Quite worn, on inspection.

  • Fuck my hat. How is that even working at all?

  • Fuck my hat (a truly brilliant phrase by the way)

I believe my post of 2 years is still relevant

Runs on hope. D'you think it's past warranty?

  • In case anyone wants to read the story in a more accessible format.
