"peekaboo!"
that "let's spice things up a little" chat that resulted in Tynan's' tea bagging idea really blew his cover

The best thing to do is to just not put yourselves in positions where a drivers mistake is likely to cause you problems. This means looking over you shoulder all the time, knowing when to overtake buses, staying clear of car doors, not tailgating, having a good brake + therefore being able to stop your bike very quickly, and just generally being a good rider.
You'd crash into a lot of stuff looking over your shoulder all the time.
I am a good rider. I am a safe rider. I spend enough time on the bike though that I will encounter trouble at some point. Case in point, every second week during a club run some fucko feels compelled to force their car past the bunch on a blind corner or rise, meets oncoming car and then drives into the bunch to avoid a crash. If I had my way, the driver would be shot and their car burned.

We are not talking about some pious argument. We ARE talking about me or you on a bike and some asshole who drives badly, sharing the same road. Personally I would not want to do anything to make him/her drive any worse and/or maybe even attack me, but if you are happy to risk it then do.
Happy to risk it.
OK but... what if you piss them off and they do something stupid and it hurts someone else? How would you feel then? Knock on the window, report them, whatever, good. I don't see how firing a barrage of obscenities helps anything, or changes their mind. If anything, it probably makes them hate cyclists more and continue in their arrogant ways.
When I'm angry I do things that are not always sensible and I think that's the same for everyone. Annoy someone, make them angry, they get unpredictable. Personally I think unpredictable is not something we want on the road.
I'm not some peace-loving tree-hugging red-light respecting pacifist, I just don't see why you would want to cause yourself or others unnecessary problems on the road.
Anyway, I think we're covering old ground here now so...

Knees* for a first offence without aggravating factors.
*from the back of the knee - a bit of leniency is no reason to forget your technique.

You should knock to get the window open, and then shoot him in the face.
You dont want to be giving your fewllow cyclists punctures by covering the road in glass ;) -

good point. it's always good to clean up after yourself.

You will have to complete this fantasy story for me to give an answer, as it stands it is just a 'what if' argument - basically a crafted scenario to suit your argument.

You are riding your bike. An arrogant driver cuts across you, almost forcing you off the road. Do you:
a) Do nothing.
b) Take their plates and report them.
c) Give them the finger and scream at them.
d) Take a lock to their window. If you chose a or b, then likely you got home safe. If you chose c, then one of the following happened:
a) They ignored you.
b) They gave you shit back, but it didn't get too sketchy.
c) They chased you and tried to attack you.If you chose d then one of the above happened, but you are in any case guilty of criminal damage.
Is it worth it?
Bingo.
I'm not going to claim that I ride in such a state of zen-like calm that I've never raised my voice or gesticulated at a driver who has angered me, but neither am I going to make up some cod-sociological post-facto justification for losing my temper.

Cant see all of it going inwards.
Ideally you should be pulling the trigger as soon as the window has enough opening, to reduce the risk of back-splatter.
Its ungentlemanly to cycle with blood on your nice white shoes.

I (in retrospect foolishly) did the wanker gesture after two cars overtook/undertook me at the same time as I was about to turn right. Anyway, turning the corner, one of the cars had stopped and, as I cut through Burgess Park, the passenger shouted 'prick' at me out the window. Then, as I sped along the cycle path I could see the car driving really slowly along the side of the park checking me out. This was starting to get a bit out of hand.
At the end of the park I had two exit options: one joins the road, one crosses the road to continue along the cycle path. I did the latter and thought that would be the end of it but a couple of minutes later the two blokes burst out onto the path with fists flailing! I managed to veer out of their reach (a few seconds earlier and it would've been curtains) and then pegged it as they raced after me. I have never ridden so hard in my life! I left 'em behind and gestured back in a wtf kind of way, then they ran back to their car to resume the chase. They got stuck in a bit of traffic in Peckham but came after me again a few minutes later. I ended up doing a brisk u-ey, cutting across a traffic island, down a side street, along a path and then hiding behind a wall for 10 minutes praying that they hadn't seen me.
This happened on Thursday and I'm still a bit shaken by it. (Don't give me any of that you-poncey-wimp-this-is-london shit, please.) I live round there and cycle that way all the time. They live round there too; they clearly know the streets well. I am occasionally a bit of a prick but try to ride safely and conscientiously. What kind of lunatics react like that!
It's 'JEEEZ' for me from now on.
Can you give us a description of the blokes and the car? This is local to me so would appreciate knowing. Ta.

Is that why I am shunned by other cyclists. I thought the red trickle of blood on my white sidis added that extra pinache.
