  • Fuck respect. If I could've set the Jaguar on fire with the driver that tried repeatedly to run me down still in it I'd fucking love to. It's been how long now? Dunno, but I still want to cut his fucking face off so he never drives again.
I just make sure I've got better escape routes when I argue with fuckheads in cars these days.
So you pacifist lot can continue riding and ignoring every fucktard that almost takes your life while a few of us will let these cunts know their shit's not on.

  • My goal is not to make the driver who just tried to kill my girlfriend and child 'respect' me (however you are using this meaningless and ever changing word) - it is, as I have already said, to make the experience as unpleasant as possible.

I dunno where the "respect" word came from, think it was the earlier post you replied to which I then replied to...

Anyway, all I'm saying is, it's all very well to try and educate the driver who almost ran you into a bus or whatever, but being aggressive is unlikely to do that. Especially as they are probably aggressive types anyway and not in the mood to listen...

  • Fuck respect.

We agree on that. I don't know where the whole respect thing came from - I don't respect them, I just ignore them.

So you pacifist lot can continue riding and ignoring every fucktard that almost takes your life while a few of us will let these cunts know their shit's not on.

Please don't confuse lack of agression with pacifism. Treating the road like the frontline of some battle between motorists and cyclists is bad for all of us and you are re-inforcing the 'tards perception that all cyclists are arseholes and we have a lot more to lose as a result.

  • Some people are nuttier than you are, and if you get all aggro on everyone, you'll catch one of the nutters inevitably.

Anyhoo, I can't really remember why I bothered to get involved in this argument. We've had it before, and it didn't go anywhere then either.

    Enjoy your roid-rage.

That's my point exactly. If you wanna get angry then fine, but what happens when you get angry with a proper nutter? That nutter also happens to be driving a car, you're on a bike? Then maybe you get chased with a bat or worse, like some people have mentioned. Did you make them reconsider? Nope. Did you achieve anything? Nope. Did you endanger yourself? Yeah.

You seem to forget that I'm all fine and dandy when cars/drivers go about their business safely. It's when some inbred lump of pus endangers my life that I see red.

If the person apologises when I confront them. I generally say "don't let it happen again" and carry on, calmed that they know they were wrong. If they get aggressive with me AFTER they've nearly killed me, then fuck them, it's on.

    Did you achieve anything? Maybe.
Did you get their plates? Yep.
Did you report them for attempted murder at the local police station? Yep.

    Job fucking done.
The cops might not do shit, but that fuck head's details are on record so if he does something again to another cyclist, he/she has a prior mark against their name.

  • That was kind of the icing on the cake of a rather bad experience.

You are right, this argument tends not to go anywhere useful, there is a divide that seems difficult to bridge. The conversation typically (as in your last post) ends up with crude traductions like "you get all aggro on everyone" and "Enjoy your roid-rage".

I normally never like to miss out on this kind of petty point scoring, but can't think of anything to say.

  • tynan needs a reboot.

  • I just make sure I've got better escape routes when I argue with fuckheads in cars these days.

    +1 Always.

Always do your shouting and banging on windows clipped in - with opportunities to manoeuvre incase one of these fuckers is a nut case.

So you pacifist lot can continue riding and ignoring every fucktard that almost takes your life while a few of us will let these cunts know their shit's not on.

Right on ! Can I get a "HELL YEAH !"

  • hell yeah sexy angry man

it by "respect" you mean "carpet" and when you mention "aggressive" you are actually meaning "Do a skid" then we agree

Get their plates and report em? Yeah I've done that. That twat is now on record too. Seriously though, you don't know how much of a twat/nutter you're dealing with. If you're happy to take the risk then more power to ya.

Thing is, this is essentially the same as many other civil/criminal problems. As in:

You're on a bus. Some dicks are playing tunes out of their phone and pissing everyone else off. You tell them to turn it off. The possible outcomes are:

    a) They turn it off.
    b) They ignore you.
    c) They get mouthy and tell you to fuck off.
    d) They stab you.

Read the news and you will know that the most tragic outcome has happened more than once, so all I'm saying is - is it really worth it?

So to bring it back into context...

You are riding your bike. An arrogant driver cuts across you, almost forcing you off the road. Do you:

    a) Do nothing.
    b) Take their plates and report them.
    c) Give them the finger and scream at them.
    d) Take a lock to their window.

If you chose a or b, then likely you got home safe. If you chose c, then one of the following happened:

    a) They ignored you.
    b) They gave you shit back, but it didn't get too sketchy.
    c) They chased you and tried to attack you.

If you chose d then one of the above happened, but you are in any case guilty of criminal damage.

    Is it worth it?

  • Did you achieve anything? Maybe.
Did you get their plates? Yep.
Did you report them for attempted murder at the local police station? Yep.
Did you get his number- cinema sat?
Did you put on clean pants?

    Job fucking done.

    Marshal law rules!

This is slave mentality, OK bad shit happens to me, but if I speak up it might even be worse, my master might give me a good beating, so keep your head down, keep quiet, we don't want any trouble.

  • I win the argument.

  • it by "respect" you mean "carpet" and when you mention "aggressive" you are actually meaning "Do a skid" then we agree

    :D

    Now, it makes sense.

  • Fucking lists!

List of things to do when attacked by a car driver (to be printed out and carried with your person at all times)

    1. check for girlfriend or child
2 . assess what is a reasonable amount of force in holding the road position against what is aggressive to wards you
    2. Did he see you? ride close and give him another chance
    3. make what you consider to be a reasonable response
    4. scare drive
    5. note number plate
    6. allow rise in blood pressure till touching cloth
    7. make note of feelings for internet forum discussion

OK, your call feller. Just want us all to be safe - we all know there are some real loons out there - keep them escape routes handy.
