caveat emptor
If someone has something to sell, let them.
If someone is buying, it is up to them to be aware and they should click through and look at the profile of the seller (making this easier is suggested above and probably makes sense).Note, if you are a specialied seller it therefore probably makes sense to detail on your personal page your commercial interests, what you sell and where else your products might be available
On successful sales, it always helps to know (in the first post) if it has been sold (someone above already said that)
I think the last thing any of the forum members want is to adjudicate on a sale gone-wrong or be involved in a "feedback loop". Go and dick around on e-bay if you want that.
If the forum where to see a % of each sale or a posting-fee (£1?) for each seller then that might be an idea that might benefit the forum and force the sellers to consider what they are posting and what makes a good classified.
Having a "classifieds" moderator might provide standards but getting into the "publisher" territory surely changes the ethos (if we have one!) and the purpose of the forum and personally an area I consider that is best for the forum to avoid

Six minutes and no one's suggested a shit in the handbag ruse.
This place is going down hill. -

shit in the handbag..
Also, I saw that dibs van too but it was going to the other way so I couldn't take a picture :(

Frighteningly easy as it turns out.
What info would you want to see?
How about

I don't like bumping... it adds nothing.
I disagree with this a little - busy forum, lots of threads can fall through the cracks depending on the mood of the place on the day. Also, sometimes people have to post stuff at wierd hours and a timely bump in the middle of the day can generate interest.

another forum i am on has a rule that you are only allowed to bump threads for a price drop on the item, this means that people can still bump things they want to sell that are not selling but stops the spam quite well :)

Has anyone ever seen Tommy and Jonny in the same room at the same time ?
Only if you wear sun glasses, because the sun shines out out of both our arses so much you'll be blinded without them.
We rule.

I like it, even if you take it down by 50p it works.

Links, sminks, figures, data, information - fuck all that, just make it easy for people.
Put a sign on sales from newcombers that says "Caution, this fucker is might be a bastard"

How do you differentiate between a bump and adding more info/responding to a question on a sale if your the seller? Is someone going to have to police each thread?
TBH i think you are opening Pandoras box on this, best suggestion is Tynans, or maybe just say that you are not allowed to start a thread in the classifieds section for 2 weeks after leaving the nurssery?
I think iw ould be more pissed off if i missed out on something because someone couldnt advertise it on here, and ended up putting it on eBay instead, than if they pissed a few people off!

one post, people can update info on thread if people pm the person.

So if something clearly dodgy is being sold no-one can ever call the seller on it publicly?
-
• #64
I'm clearly no expert .. but am most capable of naivity on the classified forum, so would suggest an agreed (and brief) protocol and guidence for sellers / buyers repeats on the forum above the e-bay craigs listing. What it should include others are best able to suggest

We had that. It was the ill fated green box rep system. Rep whore.
But seriously - while were on the topic - a way of marking sales a sold would be great - lots of "is this still for sale" resurrections from people who miss out on the whole date thing.

I agree that all warning messages should be passed through the Scobleator, possibly with additional Rikatron modulation to ensure clarity.

this is rare. but forumengers would PM the person.still think this clears up classifieds with order and you can quickly glance on the main classifieds pages of what is popular with views etc. stops annoying bumps and people speaking shit on classifieds.
how about trial?

i think that the price and value of items are determined partly by what the seller wants for it and by a greater part by what anybody wants to pay for it.
it would be nice if any item offered had a definite price by the seller and not the term offers attached to it. i think its unfair to try to make buyers be the 'buyer and seller'. you should know what you want for something or put it on an auction website.
the exception to this i think would be a recent example of somebody offering a number of parts and saying "give me 5 or 10 pounds for each item, you decide." this i felt was super fair.
unfair was the queenweigh bicycle for 200 pounds :-)
in the short time that i have been on this forum i have seen a sway away from the dib method of buying or offering to buy items ,,, with good reason.
i agree with those who have said that a seller of an item can put as high a price on an item as they like but most on here are pretty savvy and its quite easy to use google or auction sites to determine if something is overpriced. sorry if i missed something. -

Sorry for the essay. In summary:keep classifieds as is

The only thing that bugs me a wee bit is people selling trombones and cats and their mother in law... perhaps there should be an OT Classified for not bike stuff.
Aside from that I think that there is a strong enough userbase to prevent people getting extremely ripped off (eg unipack guy). Getting slightly ripped off is your own resposibility and after a few mistakes noobs like me learn fast.

heal thyself.
but I agree with Dale, it would be like a proper classifieds section.
leave the "discussion" on the rest of the forum. unless something is nicked, I fail to see how an item for sale is anyone else's business but the seller and prospective buyer/s and they can talk via PM.

+1 it ain't that hard to get another log in name and it's better tp leave all the serious buying and selling to ebay.
you can find out enough information but looking at people's profiles and posts. would you buy off me? you probably would as most sales are in person but on ebay with 5 sales you may not.

- Dale.
All the chat on FOR SALE posts is boring. Window-posting.
List your item/s. Invite PMs. Go away.

I'd like the ability to be able to rate sellers on the forum. too much "yes you can have it" followed by "oh, no I'm not sure, I think someone else was first" crap.
I've had an ebayer round my house for the last hour trying out a bass amp. FFS, its a £160 amp. You're not playing wembley arena with it.
He's just left to get some cash, and left his lefty bass behind, along with his girlfriend's handbag.
What should I do? Do I take someone else's offer (its £160 BIN BTW). Come on FGSS, make me an offer!
