It's only cheeky if you don't ask them first

Two classified sections.
One for established members (however that is defined).
One for new arrivals. So everyone can sell stuff, but if you have been here for a while you get the extra kudos (and implied security) of selling in the established members classified section - the second classified section for new arrivals carries with it a caveat of sorts - maybe just a 'watch this lot, we don't know them'.

No. But isn't bumping a bit cheeky anyway?
Probably, it was just a question really about edited single post threads.

- Check out the seller - is this post #6?
- Check the seller's join date - was it within the last 48 hours?

You can get that information from the UserCP. It shows join date, #of posts, friends, propensity to wear bear costumes, etc. It's there, it just takes a little digging. You can make your own judgement based on the information avaialble.

Free market FTW. More ads means more choice and fairer pricing. If you want to sell something for more than it's worth, try eBay or gumtree.
The current nursery period rules are enough to prevent obvious scammers registering and posting ads straight away; if we make the hoops to jump through more arduous, we just alienate the new guys. The last thing this place needs is to appear more cliquey.
As far as fencing goes, I don't think it's that easy to do here. The community is pretty vocal about things that seem fishy, and as long as that continues, I think it's fine. It's certainly easier to fence on gumtree and eBay. Possibly the only concession to make is to enforce a price for each item, or at least an ONO price. This way, anyone trying to move on stolen goods will give themselves away if they set too low a price. Furthermore, this has the benefit of giving everyone good visibility as to how much things are worth in general, which may stop people getting burned later down the line.
Sorry for the essay. In summary:
keep classifieds as is
keep nursery period as is
make a rule that you have to list a price (or ONO price) for each item up for sale -

Very true, it was just a way of simplifying all that. I love a bit stigma, when I have stuff for sale I will reregister every time so I can show up in the shitty shop.

Perhaps that's the answer then. If you post a "For Sale" thread then it automatically shows the sellers info somewhere.
Not sure how hard that is technically for Velocio, I'm no script person.

prefer to keep the flaming, they always regret doing so in the end.

Frighteningly easy as it turns out.

I am a relatively new forum member, and amongst other things I have enjoyed the classifields section. Its ease and accessability (most sellers being in london) has given me the confidence to attempt a build.
However I was wondering whether there is a limit to how many times you should bump, as in my well intentioned desperation I have found myself bumping with increasing fluency.
In sight of my own crimes I think dogsballs idea would be right, but no policing please
oh and btw if anyone does have a rear wheel to sell.... ;)

I don't like bumping... it adds nothing.
If you feel that your thread has dropped off the end... go and take more photos, find more details, do a compare to items on eBay and why yours is a bargain.
Basically I think you can bump by adding more info rather than just a "bump" post which makes it look like no-one wants the item.

that sounds like a much better system, but what if you want to buy? should you just post once and not bump, in which case wnated threads could easily be bogged down by for sale ones.
Maybe if classifields had more definite boundries between wanted and for sale threads as seen on cycle chat.Sorry for the contadictions and treason

A single label - something that sums all the info up, something like:
"Caution, new seller, unknown history, proceed with caution, possibly racist."

How about:
"Caution, new seller, unknown history, proceed with caution, possibly racist, likely to be overly defensive and not get forum humour." -

with the one post only rule, you can check the popularity quickly by looking at the viewed thread column, then look if need be. easiest and least requiring policing. i'm sure people will pm bash someone if they are selling shit.

I say no moderation. I don't think it's fair to restrict adverts to push up prices of part, if you have some wheels for sale and the market is saturate, wait, or advertise somewhere else. Simple, if you can't get the price you want here sell somewhere else.
i find myself agreeing with Sir Tommy, as usual

How about:
"Caution, new seller, unknown history, proceed with caution, possibly racist, likely to be overly defensive and not get forum humour."Sounds good.
They lose this stain on their reputation after XXXX posts, where XXXX can be higher than the nursery period post count as it doesn't limit their activity, only offer a caution to buyers.

Split ?
i say allow them to sell what they want but facilitate the payments for a 10% surcharge, they can handle their own disputes and no re-funds.
£1 is added to the price for every "Dib" and the winner must acknowledge the sellers good business in his/her next 3 posts
