Straight guage all the way.
Though I'd like to give those Sapim Strong spokes a try but they are pricey...
-
• #78
I reckon they're worth the investment, i haven't broken a single one yet.

where are the chukker rims available from, can't find them online. Somewhere in or around Bricklane i pressume!?
-

Brick Lane Bikes is the distributor. Other shops can buy them, but Velocity stuff is likely to be cheaper from BLB direct.

I still have a chukker 36h rim laced 3x with plain gauge spokes to a velocity front hub, for sale. PM if interested.

Note the one-footer shot of the logo guy. In London they... don't play that shot.
Hmmm
anyway, does anyone know if there's a warranty on chukkers?
I put a new tyre on last night and discovered a massive crack in my rim
it was only a 36 from when blb didn't have any fixed/fixed 48 hubs... So I'm using it as an excuse to get 48, but i'd like to know if I can wave my damaged rim in blb's face! So to speak.

Worth a try mate, you havent had it that long, and they're MEANT to be bombproof, even when carrying your heavy load ;)
-
• #84
I don't think you want to know about my heavy load.
Yeah it's been under a year, but over six months... And they've done a few thousand miles plus probably an average of one polo session a week, all with around 17 stone on them (and the rest!) so I'm not too unhappy With them...
-
• #85
how long you had it? I'd give it a go mate.

I've just heard from Mat and he's just noticed the inner tube sticking out of his 48 deep v rim!
So he's now racing around trying to find a new rim and will have to rebuild a wheel in the next few hours on top of packing for the worlds!

Might be worth ringing Bicycle workshop if the usual suspects don't deliver a 48 at short notice.
-
• #88
I bumped into matt in blb, he purchased a chukker rim, although that might not get him out of the woods... As he now needs shorter spokes than he had on his deep v (only 2 mm...)...

• #89
go 4 cross?
-
• #90
I still have a 48h 4 cross pair of velocity chukkers. laced with dt swiss competition to BLB freestyle hubs. barely used. PM if interested

anyone know the smallest width tyres chukkers will take?
-
• #92
Likely to be 28mm.
No point going small if the rims is designed for bigger.
-
• #93
Wuttur. I run 23c on my chukkers.
-
• #94
Yeah, they're 24mm wide. So 23mm tyres.
-
• #95
my mistake, mistook 24mm as internal.
Definitely 23mm tyres.
Ha.
