  • agreed we need a solution to this but there is no point in assuming other parks will be less busy just because we haven't been there yet. When the sun is shining, the rappers play football - it's just the way. Armitage Centre is OK, we never get chucked off when playing at night and it is very well lit, but it is just a carpark with no edges and a bad surface. Seems to be the only place to guarantee play at night though. And every time we've played their we have had good games.

IMO the best option is to get the floodlights back on at Whitworth, till 10pm prefferably and paint a mural on the walls to reinforce that it is a space for bike polo, as otherwise as soon as it's tarted up the local rappers will come and ruin it.

Last night was pretty frustrating though, some people probably only got one game, which really isn't fair.

  • we played 2 on 2 at armatige center aterwards for a while it was good, cutters beat tfu 5-1

    HA!!

We played 5 games, Cutters beat T.F.U. 5-1 in the first game, then T.F.U. won all subsequent games; incorporating some great passing and backhand shots by the Gun Show and Snoops. T.F.U. finished the last three games with clean-sheets, 5-0, 5-0, 5-0.

So there you go, the truth is out and T.F.U. prevail.

    .

This sounds good, however i still think that the surface is bad compared to pf/chorlton. I think we should do the whole mural thing anyway, perhaps even hassle the council to re-surface?

What i'm thinking about though are spaces that aren't really used much by the public. No harm trying to look for some.

i believe a certain someone has been working their arse off hassling the council et al to try to make this happen. if other people want to help with that rather than simply moan about it that would be great...let me know and i'll give you jobs. PM me

  • How can we help then? I'm up for this. Any other places we find are a bonus then, it'll be good to have a base.

  • Nes I had no idea, you should have said. I thought we were still trying to decide which venue was best to campaign for. After my dissertation is in I would be happy to take on some work for the polo cause...

  • hence all the response letters i posted the other day...and me constantly asking for help with funding etc...

am currently waiting to hear from whitworth park as to whether they will even let me apply for funding to resurface the court and fix the lights. then i shall need people that are unemployed and under 25 to write funding bids, which many of you shall be this summer (when uni is over)..non?

i thought i had already said this many times??

first time i've heard it. I thought that thread the other day was just an update, can't recall you asking all the above on here before?

Anyway, it doesn't matter. I'm up for helping 100%, i'll talk to you about it later.

  • you gonna get the lady puller caps too?

    They're my trademark, back off.

  • merged threads

  • We could play there on Sunday.

  • yeh we've played there, it's right behind my house so gets the thumbs up from me. The ball goes under the fence down one side though which is annoying, but it has by far the best surface of all courts so far.

    no floodlights though.

  • light nights + some boards= happy nights x

  • hell yeh, lets get on it Sunday. How many boards would we need to block the side then snoops?

  • enough to cover a whole side of a basketball court i guess, not sure of measuremnts.

But the park is less busy than PF or chorlton, which is good. Although, the miniramps next to the court is a haunt for rappers. They like to sit under the ramps and bunn tingz, innit.

  • there is an oldish looking tennis court in the middle of alex park that i have NEVER seen anyone on. people sometimes play in the football bit near princess parkway but never there..it has a tennis net but it looks like it comes down as it's a fabric one.

i can have a proper look at it tomozza before the chollers thing...

  • forgot to say but i found this the other week

it's friggin massive and amazing and doesn't seem to be used that much

  • Oh my fucking god.....! that is a thing of beauty where is it...?

  • well that's the problem.. it's in hebden bridge.. but it would serve as a nice day out for us all one sunny weekend...we could plan a little excursion...it only takes like 40 mins on the train..we could get up early and play all day and i have some bike mates in HB who might come and have a go and we could invite leeeeeeds too???? let's set a date??

  • Like the idea of a nice day of throwins, that court looks wicked! too far for any sort of regular playing tho obv
