Are there any phones that have decent GPS or just Google Maps?
Could be great for riding.

The N95 has a great GPS. Download 'Sportstracker' and you can upload your routes online, it's not too draining on the battery either.
However I now have an iPhone and the Missus is having my N95 :)

i use an n95
don't know how to put a route on it though so i just put key junctions on the map as points of interest then if i get lost i look where the nearest key junction is and make my way to that.
will look into the sportstracker but i expect i need a P.C. for that? i'm mac only.
the interface is shite on the nokias but when i bought it the iphone wouldn't do 3.5g modem over blutooth to my laptop which was essential. i don't think that functionality has been enabled yet even now. -

I dunno, it costs 5 fucking grand. I mean what kind of a tool spends £5k on a phone...
A very rich tool.
Screen looks like a Nokia. WAC.
Vertu is a wholly owned Nokia subsidiary. They make phones for people with more money than sense.

Its well known that Nokias are particularly popular with female buyers, and that is due mostly to the ease of use of the OS. But, its not a phone maker for the real techies.
Nokia have three mobile phone platforms, S30, S40 and S60. Which one isn't for techies?
Now Sony-Ericsson have permanently dropped their UIQ OS, and a major US network has ditched the Windows Mobile platform, whats in the future?
Symbian S60-III is gaining ground and Blackberry is THE email device.
I'll leave the future gazing to a professional like badtmy but Microsoft are now alone in charging for their mobile phone operating system.
The main contenders for the next few years will be Linux based, like Apple's iPhone, Google's Android or Nokia's Maemo platforms, or Symbian.

looks better then the other one but that kind of money is just sickening.
that amount of money could help so many people.
it's not enough to help you buy a Bugatti Veryon though.

a friend roped me into doing a bit of market research/product testing for a new phone tonight. £25 cash for 30 mins fiddling with a new phone and telling them what you don't like about it.
i just got a sony c905 which is okay. i like a good camera in my phone so it's pretty cool for that (8MP).
samsung are indeed infuriatingly shit.

45 responses and no mention yet of Motorola, who were the dominant player less than ten years ago and were still number two in terms of volume sales last year.

who would want to buy one anyway? massively overpriced

it's not the cost of the car that i find sickening, it's the little faces of the unfed orphan children.
-
• #96
Yeah, but fat western kids with both parents just don't do a good job of waxing. If it's not skinny orphans, its not quality.

And yes, that function doesn't exist on the iPhone yet, you can't even bluetooth pics across, but then that's what iPhoto is for. Still, would be useful to have the ability.

I've got a G1. Google phone with Android OS. I love it as I use g-mail and google calendar a lot and it autosynchs everything. Apps wise it's similar to the iphone but there are not nearly as many (yet). It's also extremely simple to use.
I got one too, just cause I didn't like the touch screen only option of the i-phone. Am pretty pleased with it except the camera, its shit. always had SE before, loved them to bits.

I also have a G1. The phone software upgrade, called "Cupcake", is due in April. This will allow Video Recording. I am hoping that the capture resolution is also seen to, as it is possible in that type of major update.
So far, I'm quite pleased with it. It lacks certain features that my Blackberry 9000/Bold, and Samsung Omnia possess. The Windows Mobile 6.1 OS is actually quite good. Though, I was happy enough with the WinMo 5.0. Nothing so far matches Blackberry email ability, and speed of typing on the larger Qwerty keyboards.
I feel its fair to say, that the Google-Andoid G1 (T-Mobile) was sold as an unfinished phone. Each update improves it. That said, the iPhone, in its latest incarnation, is the best of the series. Finally it can cut-and-paste, handle MMS and so on. So it was sold unfinished also, at first.
They both look shit. They both are shit. The people that use them are worse than shit.
