Oliver tbh ... all she did was play the politics game in what is described in that article.

It isn't nice or right (however if she had a go at Mr Kosygin for saying that many of the refugees were children after he said they were drug addicts ... I approve ... one it isn't an excuse that they should be treated wrong (even if they were drug addicts) and it is also appeared inaccurate) ... but a politicial has to win the majority favour.

I remember being with a work colleague a few years back, load of us over dinner chatting away and I used the word 'oriental' to describe someone from the far east. She pointed out that I can't use that word as it's racist(she was Chinese/American).

Went past a Chinese restaurant before and it said 'Oriental Food'

North Americans don't really say "oriental." It does sound sort of racist to our "ears." Probably 'cause Said told us it was bad. He was pretty smart, so I trust him.

Has the term 'half-cast' been brought up on this thread yet?

I only found out a couple of weeks ago that it's not 'acceptable' after years of use without even the first clue it isn't. I'm sure it used to be.

If it isn't acceptable what would an appropriate alternative be? (those who informed me of my mistake failed to provide one)
