  • Just dropped my iphone! Damn.
    Shattered glass but still working.
    It's a 3Gs.

Anyone had experience of getting the glass replaced?
I've seen sites where you send it in and for £50 they'll replace the glass and send it back.
But I'm not too keen to send my phone away and would rather visit a London based repair shop which is cheaper than Apple.

    Any advice much welcome.

And yes, I shoulda had a case!

  • not too sure where, it has been brought up a few times.

but if you are going to get a case, get one of these

i have purposely bounced mine off the concrete, highly recomend

  • Looks solid.
Will get one when glass is replaced...

  • I did the same thing. Is it insured? I got a replacement screen/digitizer of the bay. Cost about £12 and you get all the tools to replace the glass. The only tricky part was using a hair dryer to heat the glue that holds the glass to the plastic frame. Took about 15 mins and it works perfectly. Check out YouTube for vids on what to do.

  • id do it myself if i didnt have insurance. its cheap to get parts from ebay, and easy to do if your handy.

  • I've done it myself after I got tired of paying the guy in Chinatown 70 ever 3-4 weeks.

  • iPhone 4 in a few days....
    mmmmmmm
    not that I'm getting one.
but I probably will, seeing as my phone is shit.

  • Kinda looking forward to it.

partly because of the battery life.

hate the slogan though, 'this change everything' giving us the illusion that they've made a huge scienfitic discovery as if Lidenbrock descent Sneffels.

I'll wait until the fuss of the silly 'cult' die down.

  • First day purchase for me. My old iPhone contract ran out last month and i sold it at the weekend to buy the new one. I miss connectivity :(

  • A bit off topic, but has anyone got an iPad? My macbook is starting to show its age, so I'm wondering if an iPad would be easier for general forum/facebook/photo dossing about? I'm visiting my brother this weekend, so could pick up an iPad for trade price+staff discount from him, but need to decide in the next day or two.

  • my dad just got a free one.
    christ knows how.
I'll steal it and let you know.
    edit: apparently its from work.

  • I've had a play around with one for a couple of days and they are a really nice bit of kit but it depends what you want to do! You will obviously still need the computer if you want to sync music with it etc.

It is fantastic for video / games & the internet though!

  • best app in the world ever produced ever : is this

yeah I will be keeping my macbook for proper work still, but its 3 years old and the battery life is abysmal now, so its getting to be a pain to have to use the charger all the time. Having an iPad to easily pick-up/put-down for general internet mooching seems pretty nice, and would let me put off buying a £££ new macbook for a while.

  • ipad has no flash. it is not ideal for general internet mooching as the general internet is flash.

  • konijn, just buy a new battery for your macbook.

and steve job didn't want flash because of porno apparenty.

Flash really isn't that much of an issue! I've had my iPhone for over 18 months and only really encountered a problem a couple of times.

Not only that, but Adobe has just signed a deal with Greystripe to discuss flash to HTML5 translation on the fly which could mean that sites can display on both, automatically.

90% of flash on any site is adverts anyway!

  • Does the LFGSS use flash? if not, then that all you need, it's the only site you visit everyday, right?

  • Heh, trust me to not buy one until yesterday on a fucking 2 year contract.
    Oh well.
Mobile e-mail is enlightening. Can't believe I've gone this long.. That and the porn.

  • cooling off period?

  • You have 14 days to return your phone and cancel the contract. I suggest you do it as the new one is a massive improvement.

  • return it now, wait one month. spend £200. for the battery alone its worth it, plus it looks sexier.

  • Best app iv seen.... 'airvideo' leave your laptop running and add loads of videos to the laptop software... no messing just simply direct it to a folder...

Then on your phone using 3g or wifi you can watch films or video direct off your laptop... it plays pretty much all file types and converts them as it streams... its brilliant...

  • new iphone looks pretty decent but its still behind the queue toa few others... iv had my iphone for about a year and moved from htc hd and love the iphone its pretty good and simple...

but missus has just got a htc desire and its the busienss honestly its incredibly fast and does everything...

anyone due an upgrade in 3 months should defo wait for the htc evo 4g (if it gets released here) its definately the next major handset and is well better than new iphone...

Won't be released here, as we have no 4g networks. But yeah, I think there are more and more better options :)
