• I'm sure there's an app for that.

  • It's available again. I think they must have deleted Steve Jobs profile off one of the servers.....

  • Put it on my 3gs. Everytime I sync it deletes all my (100% legal) music (it's on a shared drive whose library was created via several itunes installations on different machines) and I can't get it back on as mediamonkey doesn't work with ios5 yet.

Therefore, the most significant thing that I've noticed with ios5 on my phone is that I can't play any music and that it appears to be impossible to copy the 'newstand' app into a folder.

I really like the phone - it was the first apple thing I ever bought, but I'm not going to get another one; it's just such a time-sink trying to get itunes to do things.

  • this is theoretically the jump that should make everything easy though...

OTA synch, OTA phone updates, without restores/reinstalls.

  • learning from my experience of using the iPhone 3G with iOS4, I wouldn't even put iOS5 on the newer 3GS!

jump make you want to get the newer iPhone 4.

  • iPad 2 successfully upgraded this morning. New Safari has tabs. The keyboard has some weird undock and split option, and you can navigate through web page fields with previous and next buttons.

Yes, hopefully. Although my post wasn't clear, it has always removed all my music when it syncs, so this wasn't a surprise. It's something to do with it detecting that some songs weren't copied by that instance of itunes, and given I don't want to import them onto my machine because I only want one copy of each song in the system, it wipes them all.

I half expect this to now be done wirelessly, so whenever I walk into my house my music gets removed... I guess time will tell!

I know there's a way to get around this by sharing content over five devices or something, but that seems like such a nasty bodge I don't really want to bother.

  • sounds too complicated for my brain to try and work out this morning...

  • Yeah - It hurt my brain too having spent weeks ripping all my CDs using iTunes :(

I've read user reports that iOS5 makes the 3GS much better - faster and with better battery life. I'm gonna wait a little for the servers to stop melting and any bugs to surface, then do the download.

  • Fuck, none of my devices are "eligible". Must be very busy. I edited the host file long time ago when I had jailbroken the first iPad, so can 100% confirm that changing lines in the host file will do fuck all.

  • I've checked it over again and tried also to add this address to the host file: #174.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

    So far so good...

  • upgrade to new iphone OS has deleted EVERYTHING and iTunes backup is borking.

    wut do?

  • Would it up upset people if I said that, aside from the download time, my iOS5 upgrade has gone through without a hitch?

  • ^ I didn't want to say anything but I had two flawless upgrades as well. An iPhone 4 last night and an iPad 1 this morning. Two more to go later today though so I've probably jinxed it now.

  • Hehehehehehe

  • Love the little rotating notifications bar, reminds me of the Chock-A-Block computer.

  • That siri cartoon is wicked. Brilliant.

Should I move to meme thread?

  • ...What I find interesting is that Siri makes these phones all the easier to target by thieves. Listening to someone talking to their phone, and the Siri voice answers, will let thieves know exactly what model the person is carrying.

really? if you're holding your phone out like that and some little oik is thjinking about nicking it, he's not going to stop cause it's only a 4 or heaven forbid.. 3gs. If it available in his eyes its free surely?

I'm afraid you're just feeding the troll on this one. Ashe is absolutely desperate to find anything and everything bad with Apple products.

ha caught, I suspect I'll be getting one fairly shortly as it happens, it's a good step up from the 3ds I have now, the camera will be great....

Not true Soul. I wasn't trolling, I was merely pointing out a sad reality, that the iPhone 4S stands out most becasue of SIRI. If muggers notice, they'll be onto you *like white on rice*** (an old Americanism that I wish I'd forget).

Also, its true that I'm no fan of the very closed architecture that Apple uses, but the very great advantage of that is that most of its parts work seamlessly together, making for the best battery life in all advanced smartphones. Android is closed too, but not to the extent that Apple is, as Cyanogen modes regularly show Android users options and some advancements. I admire Apple's iPhones, but not their link-everyting-to-iTunes modus operandi. No denying the iPhones excellence and achievements.

And Clever Pun, the camera on the iPhone 4S is apprently second only to the Nokia N8, and that is truly some achievement. The second best had been the camera on the Samsung Galaxy II S, but that position is now taken by Apple.

  • ...If muggers notice, they'll be onto you *like white on rice*** ...

But everyone's got an iPhone now so it's already easy pickings for any would be muggers.

  • Do not mock SIRI

  • Apple, can you make Siri come on my iPhone 4?

  • Obviously written by someone who can't afford a real phone. There's no folder structure in iOS.
