  • *spoiler alert

they managed to get the photo of the black hole

  • oh and nature documentaries

were here to look at the south american puma not watch kate fucking humble ride a horse sexily, surely having gone all the way to south america some of the scenery in the andes is better than watching at kate humble looking at the stunning scenery of the andes

    cunts*

  • *not kate humble

  • Agreed, apparently they think - or it's actually the case - that if something isn't phrased in the terms of a drama, it won't be interesting.

I'm vaguely interested in F1 mostly from the technical perspective, so I watched this video yesterday, about the 'ground effect era'
    - BBC Horizons 1981.

So relaxing to watch. Super informative, they even spend some time to explain what a turbo does, a narrator with a pleasant voice (plus of course the oldschool accent, but it's up to you whether you like that I suppose) who is engaging, but does not try to overdramatise anything. The camera work is simple, but effective, and they're not scared to linger on something or somebody for a few seconds. Because it's not bloody Die Hard, it's a documentary.

  • Fleabag was so fucking good - perfect ending

  • I think we actually agree on something!

    Incredible TV.

  • Just finished 1st series of German crime/thriller thing Dark. It's outstanding; comparisons would be "Stranger Things-goes-teenage-Germans" vs "Killing-goes-Krimezeitdrama." Without giving too much away, there's a big twist early doors that elevates it beyond the kind of "let's wang an 80s Hi-8 filter over the top to indicate a flashback scene" that's currently de rigeur. In a similar Deutschesdrama vein, Perfume was pretty good too.

  • Yep, really enjoyed Dark!

  • Yeah Dark was good but they picked the most homogenous group of kids so it was v. difficult to keep their counterparts matched up properly based on appearance to follow the plot in a meaningful way without memorising the whole mental family tree of cast.

  • Really enjoyed the Amazon Prime Generation Wealth documentary

  • Black Summer - Netflix.
Zombie apocalypse type stuff and rather good.
Only watched a couple of episodes though.

  • Yes - Superb.

  • The Shivering Truth (Adult Swim)

WTF did I just watch... stop motion satire/dark humour/horror... if you enjoy weird/scare things you may just love it. I did.

It is nice to see something more experimental out there. And should really watch FleaBag :)

  • a lot of the adult swim stuff is good
    rick and morty
    dreamcorp
    mr pickles
    robot chicken
    all wierd and quite different

  • Robot chicken is hilarious. Smuggled in my 9 year old into the Belfast Film Fest screening and we all laughed our butts off.

Rick and Morty I haven't seen yet.

Ren and Stimpy is what I grew up with and season 1-2 are well worth a watch (3 just ain't that great, the though "5 stages of grief" episode I did like)

  • All robot chicken is great when high.

  • I’ve enjoyed discovery, but what was with the constant ‘we’re currently in a life-threatening and time sensitive situation so now is the perfect time for a lengthy heart-to-heart’?

  • Yeah, I'll just chill here for an emotional high V or whatever.

Also spoiler Why did the fucking admiral have to die with the torpedo exploding? They're that fucking smart that they can do a load of computer bollocks but they can't pull a lever on the other side of a door with a fucking umbrella or similar, the blast door even closes downwards which would've helped.

  • Everyone on board that ship seems super keen to sacrifice themselves in an act of pointless heroics. Do they not have to pass any psych evaluation to become a starfleet officer?

  • its writing is utter drivel mostly and lots of flash lights and camera angles cannot hide that nor the massively huge plot failure at the end

    Click to show spoiler

    1. all visions of the future from Mommy showed the AI always won, yet without really telling us why, this version that we see , it didnt win
    2. they killed the AI just before they went to the future, so why keep going?
    3. burnham was the one who went into the past for all the "signals" yet she couldnt write on a piece of paper and leave it with someone in the past telling them everything thats going on? you know do a video and drop the usb stick off.....

Every episode i felt had a tick sheet

    1. big hero speech
    2. someone gives themselves up to die
    3. Burnham had to cry
    4. tilly did a drivel speech
    5. something at the end stops the inevitable thing the entire episode had been building to.

  • I’m inclined to agree. Although I did enjoy it, I feel like it could have shed a lot of the over-complications it took on and been as if not more enjoyable.

  • it could have shed a lot of the over-complications

Then it would be The Orvill (If also included a few jokes)

  • angie tribeca - a modern day naked gun style detective comedy, quite enjoyable

  • I'd be interested to know what the budget was like for Discovery, it looked like a lot of money was onscreen... I enjoyed it, again, absolutely bonkers but lots of fun...

  • Cobra Kai Season 2 is out
