  • I cant imagine living without the cargo even for one day, good luck lads

  • Recall does affect my packster.

  • i am sans cargo atm and not loving it

  • Argh - sorry to hear this.

  • From the comments on the german cargo bike forum it looks like the packster 70 will be discontinued. I'm really sorry to all those who will now miss out. I was also planning on buying one when they came back in stock here (Oslo) in the new year.

  • That's good info, thanks!

  • Not great news. Wonder what the exact issue is, Douze have been using a cable system for 8 years + without really any issue (cables slight faff to adjust to right tension/loctite the grub screws). On the upside at least R+M are taking positive action and moving quick on rectifying, some other companies (not talking cargo here, just any old bike) kind of ignore the problem until someone gets hurt, and even then.

Douze + huge box or a 'Ca-Go' is probably the closest to R+M P70, neither are exactly easy to get just now. We have some eBullitt e6100 + EP8 available and those fancy double kiddo seats but up in Glasgow.

  • What, take them all back and scrap em?
How big a fuck up have they made?

  • Nice to read people arguing on a German cargo bike forum instead of on LFGSS.

  • My fear would be that someone has had a bad accident somewhere. I really hope this is not the case.

  • I don't know. If true, it is a massive fuck up as you say.

And, @BrickMan says, it can't be cable steering in general as other bikes seem to do ok with it. Must be something to do with how it is executed in the P70.

  • Latest I have heard is that all customer addresses are being provided to R&M, who are presumably going to arrange collection directly. Comms have actually been really good from Fully Charged today. I feel a bit sorry for them to be honest.

  • An der Golfclubbar belauscht thread is kicking off.

  • Christ.

  • I'm buying an Audi Q9 for the school run

  • I am really struggling to get over this. I don't think it is an overstatement to say it was my favourite bike ever.

  • Has anyone ridden a Load 75? Able to compare it to the Packster 70?

  • People who the R+M P70 suits, really like them. Seriously doubt there will be any scrappage or writting off of otherwise good high value bikes. Imagine they will allow folk who are keen to keep the bike to keep the 'stock' position, then when they get a fix you'll be offered it back. But in the mean time if there has been a serious incident causing serious harm or death they will be obviously extremely keen to get those bikes off the road until resolved. Even though the risk of whatever that exact failure was to happen to a significant % of other bikes is likely super low (R+M don't make crap), it could even be an assembly error*

*The number of dangerously 'put together' bikes I've seen since march'20 has been mind boggling. Way way worse than I've seen in 20 years at this. 50% folk who bought online and have caused it themselves, 50% built IN STORE at the usual suspects (large retailers beginning with E or H) but also independent small shops that I would otherwise direct people towards. So could even be that, in most folks brains 'too tight is better than too loose' which can result in some interesting incidents.

  • No, it's all doom and there will never be a cargo bike of any sort arriving on these shores again

  • It does sound like there is no planned fix and they are discontinuing the Packster 70. Fully Charged say bike will be collected by R&M and they will issue a refund next week.

  • fully support buying load (ASAP)

  • I'm outside your house with bolt cutters getting ready to steal your Bullitt.

  • I'm the service manager of an R&M Experience Store in the states and I'm still mad we had to hear about this recall from our customers, rather than R&M directly.

I can't imagine they'd scrap it - given how many they've sold, eating the loss and canceling the line would bankrupt such a small company. Dealers also saw what's on the horizon for the P70 during preview back in August, and it would mean the end of a large expansion of the product line.

My money is on some sort of modification to fix the issue - likely replacing components of the steering mechanism, be it the cables themselves or the damping assembly. It's also worth noting there were a couple weeks between the first voluntary recall being announced and R&M delivering instructions to dealers on how to correct the damping of the steering.
