  • Before listing it I thought I'd see if anyone was keen on here: I am selling a complete Omnium mini-max in black, based in Bournemouth but happy to deliver it to London at cost

  • If I get a cargo bike do I also have to get an Instagram account?

    No! :)

I'd use splendid cycles box as a guide. Biggest challenge with all these homemade boxes will be proper weatherproofing/canopy so you have an all year round transport for kids no matter what the weather.

This last winter in London was the wettest I can remember (been here since 1994) and our bike was used virtually everyday during the week and not once did the seating area get wet no matter how crazy the downpour was, plus once kids get cold/wet they have somewhere to shelter away from wind without windchill.

On the flip side I've been soaked loads this winter, which are boy always laughs about! :)

  • This winter was definitely wet! It’s murdered my bike to the point I had to put it in the garage and it’s awaiting attention. Gears are seized solid, brakes all dried out, filthy, etc etc. My garden is really exposed, so if it’s not the rain and wind killing it, it’s the sun destroying everything else. That’s one of the things that’s put me off a home made box, because it won’t last very long.

I need to get a little shed really, it’s just the logistics of where I can put a 2.5m+ long shed with another 2.5-3m at the end so I can actually realistically get the bike in and out.

  • Long tails just never seem to be as popular in UK. North America loves a long tail, think the proper original one Xtracycle is maybe not the best bike there is now (others have caught up, only took 20 years!), but their accessories are excellent according to folk who use them daily.
Kona/Surly/Radpower all do their own version. Think they work great for folk with slightly longer legged kids (though sleeping kids = zero neck support, and young kids do often fall asleep within about 8 minutes of being on a bike) and for those with only moderate things to transport.

Workies/trades in NYC use longtails as their means of getting to jobsites with their higher value tools attached. Saw quite a few with a table saw/router bench attached to the back. They get bulk materials delivered to site so don't need a full sized van. Also in cities like that, its 10-30 USD per hour to park a van anywhere

  • hands down the most enjoyable thing ever

    Word <3 Looks great man.

  • Anyone ridden the surly big easy? as fun as it looks? Doesn't look like anyone's bought them into the UK.

My shop sold a couple. Really fun long-tail compared to the Xtracycle or Spicy Curry, but the lack of centerstand compatibility hurts it a lot when it comes to being marketed as a kid-hauler.

I'm not a tradesman or in NYC, but wouldn't they rather their valuables were in front of them where they can keep an eye on them, as with the Bullitt?

  • That looks like a serious oversight. Felt like the Omnium kickstand always let the bike down slightly, and that was double-legged, just not wide enough and not in the right place to support a load.

  • New omnium stand is really good, think the old one was probably a bit weak.

  • Not many long john style bikes there, I guess folk buy what they are used to seeing. Saw about as many UA as I did Bullitt, long tail bikes outnumbered those massively.
Not sure if New York state has a fund/grant/money off scheme for E Cargo as they were popular, obviously loads of start up courier solution type companies in the city, but out in the middle of nowhere I was seeing loads of large E bike and E cargo with families on them, was impressed.

  • Interested. Is it stock build?

  • I've had the new and old one. New is definetly an improvement but doesn't match Bullitt or Urban Arrow for stability. It comes as a result of the higher loading deck and the stand placement (at the bottom bracket as opposed to directly beneath the loading deck).

EDIT: This is a Large Mini Max

Mostly stock but it's had a new drivetrain, mech and shifters to allow for 11/42 cassette, new tyres, brake pads and bb.

I run an Omnium stockist shop and this has been my personal Mini-Max

Happy to deliver it at cost of petrol if that helps (I'm in Bournemouth)

I'm after £1500, putting in an order with Omnium soon so if you wanted any bits from them like webbing etc happy to do a discount on that for forum members

  • Looks great - I am registering interest and will send you a PM

  • That's a major flaw for the Big Easy . I managed to get an Xtracycle stand for my Big Dummy and wonder how I managed without it.

  • Thanks. What size is it?

  • 2019 Electrice ute for sale : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224017867099

  • Missing battery. Anyone know how much the batteries are?

  • Depends on capacity- but up to £600ish

  • buy it, batteries although expensive are 'consumables' .. at least the bike industry hasnt gone iphone yet

  • I think I'd prefer a long John.

  • That's what she said.

  • Think I spotted you at like 5pm passing by Paradise Cycles?

    I was in a queue.

  • Were you at the back of the queue? I gave a subtle nod! ;)
I had a couple more drops to do.
