  • ** can confirm that Urban Arrow with large cargo box (even mostly empty), is not a good vehicle choice on icy roads

  • Eugh I’ve done a few winters on the UA and had the front slip out uncontrollably a couple of times when unloaded. Hope you’re ok.

I’d say you probably need studded front tyre and weight on the front in icy conditions

  • Feeling smug I put the Marathon Winter Pluses on yesterday. Even if they're only needed for a couple of days. Mainly needed for the ice rink that is the path at the top of Streatham Common.

  • ^^^ yes I'm ok, was a very icy country road I should have known better than to go down - all at low speed & I even had one incident where the back spun round - DAS style. My main concern was the cargo box falling apart as it's rotting in a few places. Am in middle of building a replacement

  • I cant be fucked to do it this year :( it took fucking forever to install the tannus inserts

  • I was glad of them this morning. I also got locked out as the water I used to thaw the lock on the inner gate, refroze while I was out on the school run.

  • They are fairly easy once you get a technique down, just need to do it a few times!!

  • Before I descend into the faff of getting a wheel built, is there anyone out there selling 20 inch 12 x 100 disc wheels as stock?

  • Are they good on icy roads or just when there's snow etc to dig into?

  • Best on ice. I have gt 365s for mud/snow/leaves.

I bought them last year in the knowledge I'd only need them for 1 week a year. Anything to avoid using the car for the school run. I ran them far too long last year (probably at least a month) and didn't lose a single stud.

  • It's quite tempting. I've been getting the train to work this week because of the ice and it's been absolutely shit.

  • If you can store them for the rest of the year, then you'll get multiple years out of a pair. For me, the school run can be a 30min round trip by bike or 90min by car, especially when the weather is shit. So when I see the forecast and dread changing out tyres without a puncture, I always thank past me for making the effort.

  • I need to replace one of the cables for my enviolo hub on a rm load 75. What cables do I need?

  • Normal ones.

  • Replace both and save yourself future headache. You’ll need some extra long ones. We use tandem ones at work.

  • Thanks for the more precise answer.
    It’s a headache anyway, imo.
@dst2 it’s not bad, but keeps confusing me. One nice trick is to push the cable you want to replace into the shifter, so it kinks slightly before the place where it’s seated.

  • Thanks guys.

  • The Radiale rim looks perfect. Although it does say max tire width is 45mm. Can't see why though as it's 25mm internal.

They also do it in 28 hole, so I could use a hub from my spares box. But 30 euro shipping is just a bit mad.

  • It is a recumbent shop specialising in velomobiles, so there is a lot of sideload on the tyres. Perhaps that is why they suggest narrow tyres. I know some of their suggested tyre sizes don’t match the rim manufacturers.

  • Never thought of that, cool

  • How do you all get the right length for the cables? Vids show a tool but I don't really want to buy it and don't see it in stock anyway. Is the tool essential or can I just work it out easily?

  • Prob a well known 'hack' but i measured a length of outer, and would use that to slide over the inner, and trim excess.

double edit, maybe this is more of a rohloff trick, and you're better off using a ruler with enviolo lol

  • Il give it a go i think. Cant find anything else that ticks all the boxes.

Disc, wide, tubeless, 28 hole, lightish
