I slightly regret not building XC717, but when I built up my 14 I was so sick of the old bike needing constant care I went for the bombproof option and built XM719s.
They've done the job, only had to tru once, and that was only a pain due to being silly and using alloy nipples. Light enough at 475g.

Yeah, good point. I think that's what I was trying to say when I said offset one side. Like, rotate one sides pattern around by a couple of holes to cover any gaps. Don't think it would pull the hubs in strange ways. I'm lacing a 3x 32hole today so could test it.
Crow's feet is pretty robust, but the 6 middle feet may prove pretty terrible for polo? (The 6 middle feet will have to take the brunt of all sideways force.)
Actually, pondering it a bit more you may be alright. The comparison would be between 1x and 3x I guess (spreading the feet sets should result in a stronger wheel for sideways forces).
I rate crow's foot after using it on my commuter, but the radial spokes are unsupported and I guess wouldn't withstand impacts very well. You could thread them under the crossed spokes I suppose, but maybe add 1-2mm to the lengths.
We were talking about offset crow's foot about 18 months, ago, but I didn't go anywhere with it.
Seeing Sprinks's wheels, I'm going to do it on my next build. I guess not as strong as 3x, but the hole coverage is almost as good as radial.

Ok, so I'm intending in trying my first wheel build...
I've got the blb 48h hubs and a dodici rim... Can anyone give me the ERD and stuff so I can work out what spokes I need?
-
• #515
Yeah I can't search because I don't have an Internet connection at the moment.

Is the BLB hub a rebadged Novatec or a rebadged Quando? Is the Dodici a rebadged Kinlin?

BLB is Formula, is Formula Novatec?

Dodici rims are made by Gipiemme.
Is the BLB hub a rebadged Novatec or a rebadged Quando? Is the Dodici a rebadged Kinlin?

Awesome thanks for the help, it's helped me go from no idea what to search for to finding what I think are the right numbers.
I'm pretty sure the dodici rim is a Gipiemme A40.
I should have been more specific, the blb track hubs are novatec, but they've stopped doing them in 48h, it's the more beefier trick hubs that they have in 48, which I think Em got with his second guess of quando. I can't find anything in novatec or formula with the same body. Can't find exactly the same thing in quando, but find things that look a lot more similar.

Ring BLB and ask them, Louis... Buying the wrong length spokes is a massive pain in the dick, I've done this more than once...
Also... Check out Halo plain gauge spokes, very cheap...

Get one of these, it's the only solution. $3000 and you can cut your own spokes.

So the plan is 48h Chukkers (I found some) laced to 48h Eighthinch hubs (which are rebranded Formulas like these) off my current wheels.
Nik suggested DT Swiss Alpine III spokes and 14mm nipples.
Does anyone know what length I should be looking for? And for the nipples, brass?
Gonna be lacing them myself and getting help with the tensioning/truing at my LBS so I wanna get it right first time...

Brass nipples defo
Go light (450g), buy a spoke key, stay speedy.
