  • When is this kind of thing going to STOP!?

Think it's time to resurect the HGV saftey campaign.
Best wishes to the injured party.

    Its not going to stop.
    Accidents will always happen.
I hope shes(?) recovering AND I hope the lorry driver is OK too.
I cant believe he wanted to crush a cyclist under his lorry.

  • Excelent! thats made me feel all cheery!

  • "There are cars coming and going in every direction and people are rushing to work so they skip the lights."

  • Surely this area, if it is so bad, can be avoided?

  • It's not called a 'Lifesaver' for nothing. They should make potential car owners/drivers do the motorcycle CBT first. Once you have ridden defensively as a motorcyclist you don't forget to employ those skills. I even do lifesavers when changing lanes in the car!

I often think this too, but then I am reminded of all the cab drivers who presumably did their knowledge on a Honda cub and still drive like the rest of the world doesn't exist.

  • Fucking luck escape! Thank god.

  • Surely this area, if it is so bad, can be avoided?

It could be, but the better answer would be to design the area to be safe for all road users.

As a cyclist I am tired of so called "cycling routes" diverting me long distances away from the quickest route to where I want to go. I realise that all time spent cycling is good time and so on, but when I'm a commuter, I want the same comforts that planners desperately pursue for motorised commuters, namely a quick, effective, efficient and safe route to work. I do not want to have to trundle off of some milk route like I'm a second class citizen.

  • i saw a girl just last week being attended too by an ambulance crew. it really does make you realise how vulnerable we are. I'm reading a book at the moment called Two Wheels, its a great read but in it he mentions that if you as a cyclist look at the traffic behind you every so often, the drivers acknowlege that you have acknowleged them and so forms a communication and they will therefore 'respect' you a little more and give you a wider birth. ive been doing it a lot recently. so far so good....

    yeah i do that.

  • healing vibes to the woman involved.

happy peaceful alert vibes to everyone else riding today.

  • I often think this too, but then I am reminded of all the cab drivers who presumably did their knowledge on a Honda cub and still drive like the rest of the world doesn't exist.

Careful though.....not ALL the black cabbies are bad.
My old bro (poor soul that he is) drives one of these things all day......he swears ALL cyclists jump red lights.

Edit: he hasn't knocked any cyclists off yet......but I always keep an eye for him.

  • Great news .. feel relieved now.

  • I witnessed this incident. Had just crossed the Askew However I didn't see the lorry's indicators flashing so could well be that the cyclist thought the lorry was going straight on.

I bet that's not the best way to start the day, witnessing an accident. Did you wait to tell the the cops about the indicators?

Good to hear that the cyclist survived.

  • glad to hear she wasn't badly hurt,

  • not ALL the black cabbies are bad.

    Racist...

    Or maybe not - I can't decide...

  • Note to the subs desk on the Ealing Gazette... it's either a lorry or a truck but not both, make a fucking decision.

And yes good news she escaped with just a broken ankle.

  • Surely this area, if it is so bad, can be avoided?

Not really it's on Uxbridge Rd. Hundreds (thousands?) of riders pass through there every day.

It's the very same place these two incidents happened:

  • Glad she wasn't too badly hurt.

Unfortunately what Dale says is true although it is touchy. As much as HGV drivers need to take care, so do cyclists. People need to ride like every driver is a hazard, blind and stupid.

  • The article seems to imply that she was jumping the lights. Presumably, if the truck was turning, she can't have skipped the lights. Or am I missing something?

  • Doesn't imply that, just repeating commentary from a member of the public. It has nothing to do with the cyclist involved.

  • Glad she's ok. I think the lesson here is not to undertake lorries unless you're 100% confident that you're going to make it

  • How do you know she was undertaking?

  • I fucking hate lorries. And lorry drivers. All of them. They are cunts. Don't pass them on the inside, even if they are stopped and even if they have just passed you and know you are there....

Glad to learn she is doing OK, best of luck with recovering...

  • Most truck drivers are much better than most drivers/riders on the road, cyclists included.

We don't know the facts so don't go blaming the rider or the driver for anything just yet.

  • thats true hippy, i agree.
