i thought i teach myself skipping like a boxer.
Day after was already feeling it in my calf muscles, but thought i better practice some more. The good news:
I know how to skip now.The bad news:
My calf muscles are killing me. Delayed onset muscle soreness?
Even worse, my left knee really hurts as well, ad i can hardly step on it.
Pain just below the kneecap. Tendonitis? -

probably ... i guess i need a much more gradual build up to his venture ... will rest til pain is gone, then try 2x2mins every second day or less, and abstain from single leg jumps and double unders until i can hold that pain free. then gradually work up to those, as my legs get used to impact.
does that sound reasonable, or am i a fool?

I get this alot, had it so bad when I started riding fixed from resisting down hills too aggresively ... and especially learning to skid. In general the pain used to last around a month once I ease up, sometimes more sometimes less. Now I feel a slight twinge as a warning to ease up. Haven't had it bad for quite a while, think the fixed riding on high gear has really helped strengthen the surrounding muscles... also been doing many squats and lunges (not sure if these would help)
Still get aches really bad if I have to sit still for too long, say on a coach or at theatre. Not sure if this is related or not.
Giving your knees a break then building up gradually sounds like the way to do it.
Ibuprofen also.

Or put another brakes on the back to help with the descent.

So here I am, can still hardly walk. Tried to go to the shops today and was rewarded with nice knee pain. Living in the 3rd floor doesn't help. Also had the feeling my knee gave way when I was at the butchers.
Pain located about 2 fingers wide below kneecap, one finger to the inside, but also inside side of the knee directly at knee height.
Do I have to be worried about a ligament / meniscus tear? My GP is fucking useless. What's the best course of action?
By now I am shitting myself basically. -

ask GP to refer you to someone with their head screwed on? Perhaps straight to physio?
if you got the monies, pay Michael Crebin a visit at Complete Physio http://www.complete-physio.co.uk/clinics/kentish-town-la

isn't there some kind of law / rule / recommendation that you should be able to see someone with x days?
-
• #489
"
You should be able to see a GP within two working days.If you need advice from another healthcare professional, such as a nurse, you should be able to see them within one working day.

sorry for my outburst
RICE and find a knee specialist physio - its worth paying for
you have had a bike built for you, consider cleat/wedge/orthotic insoles from a decent fitter
pay for these things, the NHS is not going to be able to do this kind of thing well.
or just ask DFP for a diagnosis and fix it with magnets and homeopathy

where are you? people have suggested enough cycling specific physios
it sounds like you will need to rest it, let the antagonised bit recover
after that some rehab work
-
• #498
ehrm ... it's not at all cycling related?
It's from skipping, a week ago, and since then RICE and rest. -

graham anderson at balance specialises in knees, he is the physio for wimbledon and queens tennis tournaments and the UK judo squad, plus he is the cyclefit in house physio

Would a minor injuries unit be able to help with this? If yes, I probably get my arse down to Guys and St Thomas tomorrow morning at 8.
Hi Dan. Key clinical signs of a meniscal injury include swelling, joint line tenderness and possible locking / giving way. Usually traumatic in nature, sometimes degenerative. Manage as per any acute injury for first 72hrs, PM me with specific symptoms / queries if it doesn't settle. A good clinical exam is as accurate as MRI for meniscal diagnoses. I expect your symptoms will subside. If kneeling continues to cause problems then I'd advise a professional review. Hope this helps. Michael.
