What's the other you rode for 50+ miles in October?

• #410
That was a borrowed bike at L'Eroica.

What about the big red 100 in june, was that the Norwich 100 or the Dunwich dynamo?
-
• #412
June is Norwich 100, DD is yellow one after the tall bunch of yellows which is my Balkan tour.

I just notice how the dutch bike creep up over the thron/fuji every now and then.

Ed I know he rides it to work pretty much everyday (I've seen him ride the deathtrap to work before!) but maybe he's used it on a few group rides as well?
-
• #415
The Dutch is a pretty constant short, thick line of four-mile journeys at the bottom because I ride it to work every day. Everything else is SPD so it's easy to hop on for short distances. Any further than four miles and it's a chore though. It weighs a tonne.

Back on topic, here's a link from my massage therapist about a technique that seems to offer some relief for some types of knee pain which tends to be perceived as joint pain. He's very keen for other massage professionals to try the technique and give him some feedback:

I'll add this to my sessions with a particular client. She's had a few issues, as a ski instructor.
Thanks Scherrit. -

first bout of knee pain in months today. Woke up face down with a throbbing pain in my knee and thought "fuck, I thought I'd broken up with you 2 months ago"...

I did a horrible thing on Sunday. Well i didn't do a horrible thing, a horribel thing was done to me. I was walking past my flatmate, foot facing north, body facing west, and my flatmate 'tapped' my knee right on the joint, knocking me over, popping my kneecap out of place, and leaving me sprawled out on the floor in fucking agony.
I've just started cycling agian the last few mornings and it seems OK - walking forward is ok, but whenever my knee gets twisted I feel an instant sharp pain. Horrible.

Patella subluxation can cause sub-chondral irritation so I'd recommend a graded to return to full riding intensity. (In English - if your knee caps pops out of place you can bruise the surface beneath the knee cartilage. This can be slow to settle and doesn't like too much too soon)
-

Although the kneecap popping doesn't sound like it, the pain on twisting sounds like a cartilage tear as does the mechanism of injury. Forum medical advice always a wee bit dodgy so should prob see a sports physio/doc for knee clinic referral if this doesn't settle.

anyone knows if those neoprene knee sleeve things are good? I'm thinking they're good to keep the knees warm if nothing else?
Stayed off my bike almost all of december due to the cold, my knees didn't like it all
-
• #424
Neoprene would bunch up behind the knee. Get some cycling knee warmers to wear under our bib shorts or get some 3/4 lenght thermal bibs.
Knees should be kept covered up to temps of around 18-20C.
-
• #425
do knee warmers work without bibs?
Nope.
Mine says 62.2 miles total.
