Hey, Ally from Glasgow here, thought I'd post here as well as the FB page. I'll be coming down without a team, so if anyone's still looking for a player, let me know.

You're going straight into knock-out games? Could be fun.

May I suggest 1 or 2 games to get a very, very basic seeding for the double elim, 1 game would be an extra hour, 2 would be 2. You may also suggest I STFU.

• #2280
Or there are some interesting options on http://www.printyourbrackets.com with things like triple elim or double elim with 3 games guaranteed.
Or again I can shut up and leave to you guys who are actually in charge. -

I like that double elim - 3 game guarantee. Can anyone remember what we played at the Glasgow SHIT? Agreed 10 minute timed games - no time limit.

All suggestions are given an equal hearing here.
Personally, I like the sound of this ^I like that double elim - 3 game guarantee. Can anyone remember what we played at the Glasgow SHIT? Agreed 10 minute timed games - no time limit.
Guessing you meant 10 minute timed games - no *goal *limit, Matt?

I did a few doodles, you can play:
1 A vs B 2 C vs D 3 E vs F 4 G vs HThen winner of 1 vs winner of 2, winner of 3 vs winner of 4 and losers of the same games play each other.
Then you'll get a league table with 2 teams with 2 wins, 4 with 1 win and 1 loss and 2 teams with 2 losses. Goal difference can be used to help and do a seeding. This is assuming golden goal so no draws. -

- No teams are sorted or confirmed from newcastle yet, ok chaps.
Me and luke (THE ROOKIES OF NEWCASTLE POLO) are in a team together - Smoking Nuns- and need 1 more player. Perhaps we can play with a visitor as a 'super sub" (for no one) or any newcastler without a team after the newcastle ' A side ' have got together( Matt, tris , john, nige, steve)......
2> This just in .... SANDERS, NBP legend, will be BACK in newcastle for SHIT(E) ((england)) 3

sorry fellas ... been carrying an injury for weeks but today felt good ... so i should be ok
was planning to throw myself into saturday .. meet folks of the train/keep feral youth at bay etc whatever support roles are needed .... if i'm well enough to play i'm happy to join any team that needs an old cripple an a brompton ... prolly got some crashing/sofa space if needed too ...but we do have a grand slam to win, so i might need to get to a pub at some point in the afternoon to watch France get outclassed

Be good to see ya there Nige.
Forgot about the rugby. Might need to rig up a generator/portable telly at the court ;) -

Good man Nige. If you come down you'll get a game.
Loving that optimism by the way but England will be turning over Ireland to the tune of about 30-0 while France do their usual trick and play out of their skins when the pressure's off.
Phil - I am intrigued about your team. Dark horses for the trophy I reckon.

Think I'm sold on the seeding idea - it's going to make the brackets fairer. So there's a couple of ways to do it which depending on how much detail we want will probably result in 8 games (assuming 8 teams). Snottyotter's plan sounds good for 8 but we can go for a mini-league if there are an odd number of teams. If we make those 5 minute games with golden goal then we're looking at an hour with changeovers. It makes sense not to cap the scoring in those games in order to give the best spread of goal difference.
Then straightforward double elim for the brackets is 15 games at 10 mins which will be 3 - 3 1/2 hrs with dicking about. Depending on how we're doing with time, we can take a view on capping scores at 5.
I can print brackets for 6/7/8 teams.
Sound ok?
As I'm expecting 8 teams total now, I'd suggest we play the tournament straight away as the courts don't get busy until the afternoon. Then we won't have lots of competition for the space and can have friendly throw-ins later on.
I think double elimination is best as that means 15 tournament games total, single elim would be 7 games and round robin would be 28 games.
Then if we play 10 minute timed games the actual tournament bit will last 3 to 4 hours, including stoppages and time between games.
What does everyone think to that?
