That was a damn exciting session. Shame that Max couldn't finish his lap (brave move to give up the penultimate effort, looked like that would've been good enough for pole).
Though given it's a Leclerc pole position, the odds for a Max win are pretty high!

C4 haven’t made it available to watch on demand for some reason. Then, BBC news, who literally never mention F1, decided to announce the results out of the blue. Thanks a lot, media.

This is gonna be one of those afternoon's sitting around in case a race starts.

Starting in an hour apparently. Looks like the rain is passing

Hoping for a wet / damp start though

Am half expecting them to decide the track hasn't dried enough, although Ted seems confident it is doing.
Spanner thrown in the works by me not realising Manchester derby is the earlier kick off this afternoon.

Yup. Got the iPad next to me for dual screen.

Medium looks a tad squirrely!

Hamilton and Verstappen making mistakes - Ferrari steady.
Is it Opposite Day?
Been a pretty incident packed race so far. Wouldn’t say there’s a whole lot of overtaking talent on show. Just who survives longest.

I'd say he did pretty well all things considered!
So, the budget cap report that was due to be released today has now been pushed back to Monday. Can only imagine the media frenzy if RB are found to have breached the limits the day after Max picks up the WDC.

With the FIA a delay usually means a compromise or a coverup sadly.

They already cheated to give max the championship last season.
They’re not going to follow their own rules to take it away again.

• #9341
They love a cliff hanger.... made for TV indeed.
-
• #9342
Definitely smells like "Right, someone's broken the rule we put in place, but we didn't actually say what would happen if they broke the rules. So now we need to come up with something that doesn't make us look incompetent"
Or maybe they're just waiting until after the championship to decide the results, would be true to recent form.

Or Christian sent in the lawyers?

Latifi has given up any pretence of trying I think. Just accidentally drove into a side road just before the chicane and said the car felt strange.

200 IQ move qualifying last so the 5 place penalty has no impact though.
Also, sure I'm a biased Vettel fan, but what a quali performance there! Shame Alonso didn't get a good lap in at the end, he was looking very strong throughout.

Pretty decent race in the end (albeit only 50 mins or so of it). Still baffles me that a Mercedes-engined cars can't keep up with a Renault-powered car. Things like Haas jumping up the order at the start of the season, Ferrari becoming the new 'high-speed cornering' specialist are understandable. But the Merc engine suddenly losing performance relative to Renault, that's bizarre.
Actually pretty happy the WDC is wrapped up at this point. It's been going that way for a long time and it's always great to see the top teams just throw everything at the final races as opposed to playing the points game.
Also, looking forward to seeing the FIA investigate themselves around the truck on track that Gasly almost hit. Think they would've learned their lesson from last time.

Well that's that then, Max's move on Charles pretty much sums up there battle this season. Well deserved title, would of been nice for him to cross the line knowing he'd done it but at least we didn't have to see his dad going mental.
Can't see Lewis catching George over the remainder of the season which will make a lot of people happy but given that Alonso is behind Ocon by almost the same margin i don't think it's time to write him off yet.

Proper WTF moment for me and my partner as we were there the last time, can understand Gasly's reaction.

The FIA trying to blame Gasly with the "speeding under the red flag" crap when the red flag was shown a second or two before he passed it was ridiculous too. The FIA are doing a pretty good job of uniting the drivers against them this season.

That was a pretty awesome move. The FIA creating another clusterfuck with the opaque rules about the points is right on brand too. A red flagged race followed by a 2 lap sprint before timing out would still be worth full points? Classic. I normally take any opportunity to blame Croft for his uselessness but it was pretty understandable getting that wrong on this occasion.
Also, did you see how close Hamilton came to collecting Sainz? I missed it during the race and only saw it in the cooldown room highlights (around the 50 second mark here): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5IobTGDrq0
From the rumours it seems that it's RB & Aston that are the likely candidates. One marginally over, one very much over. Hard to believe that the results from 2021 are only being finalised now. There also doesn't seem to be much in the way of known penalties for breaching, which seems bizarre given F1's knack for living in the grey area of regulations.
Will be interesting to follow for sure!
