  • Is it true Max had no flags, no lights, and no lights on the steering wheel though? Feel like it's a valid penalty for the situation but if the track fucked up, it's not really fair to penalise someone who had absolutely no notification it was yellows.

  • Saying shitty things about the marshals rather than taking the penalty like a man. Not allowed to chat shit about the FIA.

5 place grid penalty for Christian Horner. 😅

Christian Horner has taken one for the team as far as mankind is concerned. Geri Halliwell...

  • Is it true Max had no flags, no lights, and no lights on the steering wheel though?

That’s what they seemed to say on C4.

That and the notification system showed nothing - no driver would have had an electronic notification or an update via team radio - unless they had spotted rogue flagman

  • Is it true Max had no flags, no lights, and no lights on the steering wheel though

No. There were flags. The lights and steering wheel lights are driver aids. You have to comply with the flags, end of story. I've got a bollocking in the past for overtaking under a single yellow. It was a long way off track, out of my line of sight, and I didn't see it. Bang to rights though, so no whinging from me. Certainly didn't blame the marshals.

  • So good to see Alonso back on the podium. Also quite a nice change to listen to the C4 folks instead of the Sky F1 guys! Probably not the worst track to just catch the highlights on.

It's been a great season, one thing I really hope for for next season is more than a 2 car battle at the front. It'd be nice if the off-track crap didn't get in the way of the racing so much, and I'd bet that having more that 2 serious competitors would help with that.

Then again, the midfield battle has been awesome this year, fingers crossed that also continues next season.

  • Other than money what’s in it for the sport to host a race in Qatar? That track seems about as dull as it gets to me?

Were the curbs worse than on other tracks at yesterday’s race?

  • I mean, it's a business, I'd imagine money is the primary success metric!

I imagine the curbs issue was due to it having pretty flat 'regular' curbs due to it being constructed for bike racing. The secondary curbs looked pretty similar to those you see between 9 & 10 at the Red Bull/A1 Ring, which also has a history of destroying cars.

Worth a listen to better understand the business of F1.

Much like football, F1’s love of the Middle East states really puts me off - we are taking part in sports washing on a grand scale. Lewis was the only driver to speak out about the issues in Qatar

  • None of the younger drivers are going to upset any apple carts by prodding around the likes of the Chinese/Bahraini/Saudi/Russian human rights records. If there's one thing these guys always want, it's accountability.

And now this Chinese tennis player has gone on the missing, but hasn't gone on the missing according to the Chinese Authorities...

  • Just 20 mins and I'm really enjoying this.

  • Ch4 commentators suggested it's because so many of the kerbs have useable run off the other side so on nearly every corner the tire is taking heavy hits on/off/on/off.

  • Yeah I understand that view but also you’d like to think people could use their platform for better (vettel, alonso, raikonen).

The Peng Shuai stuff is another level and I don’t think comparable to white, European males speaking out about the human rights issues with specific countries.
Personally I think we should hold these folks to higher standards - not saying it’s easy but isn’t that the point?

  • The business breakdown podcast series is great - Jesse Puji is a regular guest and I have a lot of time for him

  • Where can I watch either the full race or extended highlights of Brazil a couple of weeks back? Nothing on More 4

  • Haven't used it myself, but there's a site called F1 Full that looks to have what you're after.

  • Many thanks

  • RIP Sir Frank

  • Not F1, but there's a really good docu currently on Sky about Michele Mouton. What a woman!

  • Interesting take by the guardian, is Hamilton personally responsible for organising the team sponsorship deals now?

    https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/dec/02/grenfell-survivors-outraged-by-lewis-hamilton-car-sponsorship-deal

  • Gotta get them clickies and eyeballs somehow

  • The Mercedes team stressed that drivers were not involved in sponsorship decisions

  • To be fair, the Guardian article is very heavy on the mentions of Hamilton and the sponsors on Hamilton's car, with not much in the way of mentions of it being a general Mercedes deal. Had a quick skim over the BBC's article which is more what I'd expect, blah blah Mercedes sponsorship, for whom Hamilton drives, blah.

Whether it's lazy or click-bait, definitely feels a bit cheap.

  • Watching practice here, getting Monaco/Zandvoort/Mugello vibes where it'll be great to watch quali but I expect the race to be a snoozefest aside from the inevitable big crashes. Fingers crossed we don't see an incident here deciding the championship outcome.

  • Stunning lap from Verstappen!

    Until it wasn't.

  • That was looking like a ridiculous lap. Such a waste chucking it in the wall after he'd already lost it on the way in. Looking forward to seeing the onboard of that moment at turn 2 (?). That looked damn close!

Edit: Just saw it there, if that had've come off that would've been one of those ridiculous laps that get shown time & time again. Fingers crossed for a non-processional race tomorrow!
