One of the most nailbiting races in years! Ferrari really look the business this year. Webber seems to have fallen under the spell of some powerful voodoo practitioner. One more lap and Vettel would have taken the 3rd spot from Lewis. What a shame there wasn't one extra lap eh?
Well done to Alonso, Kimi and Lewis. Good race.

Oh yes, good drives too by Jenson, DiResta, and that new boy, Ricciardo. Massa could have done better, he can't blame the car.

Anyone else feeling that DRS is ruining it a bit?
Overtaking on the straight with that kind of ease is dull and artificial. We want to see driving skill, not aero mechanisms.
Please F1 do what the fans have been asking for for decades and get rid of the fucking wings. -

How much downforce could they develop if you banned front and rear wings?
-
• #3356
i.e. an underbody venturi type system, and would that get FUBAR'd by running behind another car?

And you can throw DRS into that too

Please F1 do what the fans have been asking for for decades and get rid of the fucking wings.I admit, I was completely against DRS at first, I thought it was a fucking sham. But at the end of the day, these cars are massively aero-dependant (a problem that will be sorted out soon I hope) where you needed to be 2 seconds faster than the car in front to pass. DRS has gotten rid of that. If the cars are as fast as each other, they will tussle for a few laps using DRS on each other, but it stops faster cars being trapped behind slower cars (which caused Alonso to lose the championship a few years back when he was stuck behind Petrov at Abu Dhabi). Yes, it's "artificial" but it counteracts the stupid amount of dependancy on aero that modern cars have and allows them to pass as they should.
I make no apologies for the wall of text, i've had a fuckton to drink and am passed caring.
FORZA FERRARI!

I've always lusted after the idea of sticking all of the drivers in Lotus 49s and letting them race. But then you get the people whinging about F1 being the "pinnacle" of motorsport which seemingly means that they must have the most technical development which makes everything incredibly dull!
I wish they'd just limit the amount of turbulent air created (quite possible with modern CFD programs) to reduce the aero dependancy of the cars and make it easier to run closer behind other cars, surely an advantage for everyone.

I think allow ground effect back in to F1 (if they want to be able to point to the technology), you could then make the top of the car as slippery as possible.
Or, wings parallel with the axle are banned.
OR cars are to be tested at 180mph and must be developing no more than 200 kg of downforce at that speed- use as many wings as you want, but none of them are allowed to be in any way dynamic.

Ground effects increase the lower the car is to the ground encouraging teams to run the car as low as possible, if the car touches the ground, the downforce suddenly stops and the car has a lot less grip that the driver expects. I can't see ground effects ever returning to F1.
Parallel with the axle I don't really understand, how do you mean?
Measuring the downforce/turbulance generated seems to be the only plausible step forward IMO.

Just ban anything remotely wingy. Barge boards, end plates, and all that shit. Define minimum radiuses, component sizes, etc. Make some rule defining the sillhouette in plan and elevations, etc, which basically limits you to a central tub and some wheels, and a flat floor, and give the manufacturers free reign to create any body shape that fits completely inside the profile. If they optimise that aero package then great, but the result should be 70% mechanical grip and only 30% aero.

We have the technology- simply mount these bad boys to the plank.

Quali results:
- Nico Rosberg 1min 32.330secs
- Sebastian Vettel 1:32.584
- Fernando Alonso 1:32.667
- Felipe Massa 1:33.207
- Paul di Resta 1:33.235
- Adrian Sutil 1:33.246
- Mark Webber 1:33.078* (Three-place grid penalty for causing crash in last race)
- Kimi Raikkonen 1:33.327
- Lewis Hamilton 1:32.762* (Five-place grid penalty for change of gearbox)
- Sebastian Vettel 1:32.584
- Jenson Button no time
Force India are really showing some pace, and DiResta has definitely got the giddy-up after Sutil's recent improvement of form.
- Nico Rosberg 1min 32.330secs

I wouldn't be surprised to see Massa on race-winning form. Whether he happens to move over for Fred is another story altogether...

I think its a such a tyre-wear dependent race, that its down to who preserves their tyres best. Jenson could be in the top 3, and I think Rosberg has the measure of Lewis in tyre management, so he could be top 3 again also. Alonso for the win.
Alonso
Rosberg
ButtonThats my podium predictions.

I had a dream last night that Vettel was going to win. However in that dream he was alone on the podium having taken everyone else out of the race. Him and his bloody "I'm number one!" finger.
Bloody hell!
