  • I wouldn't trust Vettel as far as I could throw him

  • Agreed. Nasty little twerp.

  • I can only hope that Red Bull teach sv that the world champion is actually Adrian Newey not the chap that is lucky enough to drive the car he designs.

  • i missed the race, but just watched this
Malaysia 2013: Download Mark Webber Slams Sebastian Vettel as Vettel Ignores Team Orders (Full HD) - YouTube

I feel so badly for Webber, the guy looked pretty emotional and clearly deserved the win today. Vettel is a top class wanker. Its sad knowing that the team are unlikely to do anything about it.

Also, i'm a big Alonso fan but who thinks he deserves some kind of penalty for continuing to drive a dangerous car?

  • I'm disappointed in Vettel for apologising. He should have stood behind what he did.
Schumacher or Hakkinen would have, and you can bet your arse Senna would too.

Podium vibe was comically awkward, I thought Webber was going to be much more frank. Both Mercs were under the control of that bloke off Pie In The Sky, so I don't feel too bad for Rosberg.
Button and Di Resta get some sympathy from me.

  • I'm disappointed in Vettel for apologising. .

    What?!

Webber had been given team instructions to turn his engine power down, and so had Vettel, to make their engines for another race or two. Vettel, knowing Webber had turned down his engine, gunned his and overtook Webber.

This is as unsporting behaviour as I can ever recall. They weren't racing evenly and the better driver won! One had turned down his engine, and the other took advantage of that, as if Webber was from another team! He took advantage of team orders to them both, to get the victory. Nasty.

Your analysis is deeply peculiar, to say the very least.

  • Well, I'm not an F1 engineer but I'm guessing that if Webber turned his engine down he could have turned it back up again.
I like Webber a lot, and have a lot of respect for him - but i'm surprised at his naïvety on this. Did he honestly expect a triple-World-Champion to stick the cruise control on and hand the win to him?
Team orders are the death of real competition. As long as Vettel remains at RBR, Webber will remain Number Two. Pardon the pun, but he needs to shit or get off the pot. I can't see him doing another season with them after this.

  • You wouldn't need to be an F1 engineer, nor any engineer at all, to realise the damage that can be done to high-revving engine, to turn it down, then turn it back up again.

Imagine an engine that revs to 11,000rpm, that is then brought down to 9,500rpms max (these are for example only). The engine would cool slightly, and be less stressed. Then whacking it back up again in a race! Even in a testing chamber, this could make the whole thing go bang. Why do you think they want to preserve the 8 engines they have, if they can just stress it however they like?

  • Your analogy holds no water tbh, you're suggesting that an F1 engine would blow up by returning to race pace after a couple of laps behind a safety car.
Mark was behaving himself, and he got jumped. Then the guy that did it turns around and says he didn't mean to do it. Almost as pathetic as professional football.

  • Vettel did it because he wanted to and knew there would be no comeback. It was selfish, and showed a total lack of respect for Webber.

Hakkinen would not have done that, Schumacher might, dunno about Senna.

  • Lots of damage to Vettel's reputation/fan base.
I can see Webber getting loads more supporters now - much deserved.

    Loved the moody podium atmosphere.

All set for a cracking season!

  • For sure I like to watch the post race interviews and play the motor racing "for sure" drinking game. For sure.

Schumacher definitely would have done it, but he would never have been in the situation as he was always the de-facto no.1.

Senna would have scoffed at team orders and done anything to win.

valentino rossi would have you blind drunk...

Short sighted though, part of the arrangement within a team has got to be that you work together - you can pretty much guarantee that if you asked Webber "who do you want to win this year?" he's not going to say Vettel.

That's not great, given that he is meant to support Vettel for the rest of the season.

Last race of the season and Webber has to move aside to let Vettel take the win, and therefore the championship- is he going to keep his engine turned down and meekly move aside?

If they'd behaved with mutual respect all season then it's not even a question, right now I would think that Webbers attitude would be "fuck him, let him try to come past".

  • Oh I agree

I think Vettel is a total pellet and can't expect anything from Webber for the rest of the season. Christian Horner is not doing himself any favours, and having a technical director and team ready to do anything to protect their prodigal son is never going to play out well. Vettel just looks like he is spoilt and indulged.

  • Hopefully Vettel's engine will seize at the next race.

  • I'd be interested to know what the pit mechanics at Red Bull thought of the weekends shenanigans. I think that will make more of a difference going forward than any rivalry between Webber and Vettel.

  • They could put a prawn in his helmet.

  • The problem was the teams orders, not what SV did. Despite what they say, everyone knows that SV is the number 1 driver there & in all honesty is the one that is more likely to challenge for the championship - if he'd stayed behind & at the end of the season finished 2nd by only a couple of points everyone would be looking back at this race & say it was a mistake. The team should just be honest with their drivers & the public and should have just told MW to get out the way - it would still be boring team orders but at least it would have made sense.

  • If Webber wants to be no.1 then he has to consistently outqualify his team-mate. Until he can do that, he should shut the fuck up and driver harder.

Vettel knows he can apologise afterwards to Webber, the team and everyone else, but he still gets to keep the points, and that is all that ultimately matters.

  • Would Vettel be better off on his own- a team of one car and one driver?

  • Most champions think they would be. It takes a level of self-belief that can go way into arrogance.
Alonso, Schumacher, Hamilton, Vettel, Prost, Senna - all like this to some extent.
Button, Hill, Hakkinnen, and Mansell less so, I would think.
Though the wiser ones realise the contributions made by team-mates in car development, spoiling tactics, etc.

  • No it'd be worse - I'm not discounting the valuable work team mates do, Webber just needs to understand that he's a very expensive rear bumper.
