I stand corrected and apologise, although I have always seen Hill as not fulfilling his potential and doing justice to his talent.

After being kicked out of Williams (what the hell was Frank thinking? Apparently he would have fired him even if he had won every race) Hill should have taken a McLaren drive at any price, rather than chasing the money by signing for Arrows. He would probably have won a second championship.
But you can understand his decision. At Williams he was still on basically a test driver's contract and salary.

Good morning F1 fans. Free practices are over, and Qualifying begins shortly.
For Spaniards, good news, Lewis looks fucked, after an off in practice reduced his time on track to less than half of any of the front runners.
Mercedes and Red Bull look very, very fast. Ferrari would now be playing in the Championship, if this were football, and honestly, could even be relegated, its that bad.
Funny that, because Ferrari's race pace wasn't bad, so its their one-lap set-up that is lacking.

Great analysis!

I see Lewis and Alonso, great buddies that they are, benefiting if there is the expected deluge.
Mercedes look a reasonable punt for the pole, or podium.

Lewis and Jenson take the front again, followed by Schumey and Webber.

I secong that - great analysis! I wonder if there'll be a repeat (non) performance from Lewis or will his clutch issues play havoc again?

If not for the incurred penalty, Kimi would have lined up 5th, as opposed to 10th. That would have made an historic line-up, with 5 World Champions occupying the top 6 places. Mark Webber crashing that party.
- Lewis Hamilton
- Jenson Button
- Michael Schumacher
- Mark Webber
- Sebastian Vettel
- Romain Grosjean
7 Nico Rosberg - Fernando Alonso
- Sergio Perez
10.Kimi Raikkonen (penalty; dropped 5 places)
World Champions in Bold
- Lewis Hamilton

For the race, I see Kimi moving up, and once ahead of Fernando, would challenge Vettel, and that will be a good old ding dong (or donnybrook, if cliveo is reading this). :-D
I don't see Lewis making the same mistake as last time. And I predict that Vettel's strategy, will get him ahead of Webber.

Glad to see Schumacher in the top 3, shows that us 40-somethings aren't completely useless.

That is good. It gives everyone something to think about. It was always going to take a couple of seasons before things were any good. Look at what happened with the glorified Fiats.

I've been hearing that Jenson is excellent in the wet. Really? Lewis has always been faster in the wet, or am I wrong? In the same car I meant.
Yes, I am a Lewis fan, but this was a serious question.

I just took a free £10 from Sky and stuck it on Jenson to win. Only 7/4 mind but he is a very good driver in the rain. Especially last years (Australian?) GP where he came from 12th or something to take Vettel on the last lap when he skidded. That was a classic

jenson is well known as being the best driver in the wet, his smooth style just works better in the wet. lewis has had a few good races in the wet but jenson is consistently amazing.

I see plenty of "offs" happening.
Is this where Kimi's recent rallying experience pays off?

What a bunch of wetlips
Safety car for the rain, it never used to be this way.
Obviously safety needs to come first, but they know it rains this time of day most days, so if they can't do a proper race then do it earlier and make people get up

After the plane crash the Hill family lost everything. Graham did not have insurance, and the resulting lawsuits wiped their money out.
Damon paid for his way, just as Mansell did.
If Damon had said "I broke the lap record 11 times during that race" I get the feeling he wouldn't have then felt it necessary to add "Not once. 11 times."
I can forgive Mansell his personality however, because he was an incredible driver to watch, who never gave less than 100% and never gave up. It probably takes his kind of personality to come back from breaking his neck, breaking his back twice and the death of close friends like Ronnie Petersen, and the political manoeuvres of his teammates and still win the world championship.
