I have to admit, I think the McL looks shit, and I think the Ferrari looks awesome, especially this:

It looks like a proper racing car. Now, i'm not a Ferrari fan per se (however I am a Massa fan and I do believe that Alonso is the best driver on the grid, make of that what you will). My allegiances are firmly with those Malaysian guys from Norfolk, who I believe have the best looking car of the lot:

No, he's a F1 aero engineer obv'.

I think all the cars looked much better when the regulations demanded the aerodynamics were the other way around - narrower front wing, and massive wide spoiler, rather than the current look, which makes the proportions seem wrong to my untrained eye.

If I was an F1 aero engineer I couldn't sleep at night with the guilt knowing that it would be people like me who have made the sport so much worse than it used to be!
Suspension & steering is my area of expertise, and it's as a result of the ridiculous amount of importance of aero in F1 that suspension design basically comprises of "Make sure all of your suspension crap is out of the way of the air flow", "What's that? You want a low nose to improve the suspension geometry? Tough shit, the aero guys want a high nose to improve the air flow", "Make sure that suspension at the rear is packaged as tighly as possible so we can make a nice aerodynamic body shape around it. What? I don't give a shit if it makes it impossible to adjust the springs/dampers!" etc.
I'm not bitter about it, honest.

I think they looked much better when they were Lotus 49s ;)

So much like the Campaign For Real Ales shout we start a Campaign For Mechanical Grip? Aero has certainly made the racing less interesting. Maybe if the Aerospace industry was more lively then all the aerodynamicists could fark orf and play with planes.

Also, since it's the F1 thread...
Who knows how to get reasonably priced grandstand tickets to races? I'm making sure I either get to Spa or Silverstone this year but the tix are outrageous. I mainly ask about the Grandstands as my girl wants to come along but I really cant imagine here camping on a wet hill for 8 hours...
Oh and other question. Who's been and wheres best? !

Hungary was cheap and cheerful when I went there.

On the plus side, it is getting better, this was only a year or so ago:

spa vs silverstone - no choice.
spa, then watch the motogp at silverstone for 75 bananas.
easy.

That top photo is an amazing angle - amazingly ugly. Like some kind of transformer.
Seriously though, I love what aero can achieve but I always remember some quote from some engineer That "if it doesn't look right, it probably isn't" might have been Frank Williams?? But anyway, the new cars still dont look "right"
but agreed, getting better.
What about a return to these?

"Ferrari has misappropriated the F-150 trademark in naming its new racing vehicle the 'F150' in order to capitalise on and profit from the substantial goodwill that Ford has developed in the F-150 trademark,"
Yes Ford, Ferrari named their F1 car after your pick-up truck in the hope that people would associate the two...

My flatmate said a similar thing. I'll stick with feeling that Spa is the place to go then.
I have read some horrror stories about Monaco too. Def not going there! -

Though out of all of the modern winged cars, I have to say these are absolutely astoundingly gorgeous:

YouTube - Formula 1 Raidillon Spa Francorchamps 2009 Great Sound
Sensational stuff. Never seen an angle that shows the pure speed of these cars, even during a grand-prix broadcast. Fucking brutal.

Better, but better still:
Totally agree, but I dont like seeing drivers flung out in a ball of flames. So maybe, mechanical grip, very small aero and all the modern safety designed into a car... maybe

oh yeah, those vids were incredible

So, Forumla Ford then? ;)
I still maintain that it's the best form of motorsport to watch, that and the Lotus Elise trophy.

Daylesford Organic on Westbourne Grove isn't one of my regular dives, but I'm glad I popped in earlier as none other than Jenson Button was eating in there. Now I'm not a fan, but as stupid as it sounds from looking at him from no longer than a couple of seconds he seems to be everything I thought he wasn't. Sharply dressed too. Changed my mind about him.

Was he complaining about the lack of grip on his glass?
No, it would still look shit if it was Scuderia red.
I don't doubt its functionality, but it's all a weird mish-mash of curves and angles and the result doesn't seem too pretty. To be honest I have this problem almost every year, but nine months later the familiarity has usually diffused the offensiveness.
