Thanks, did not know another option exist.
Saddle bag is pretty small, but very light;
TM road (france to spain fixed) with a similar bag to this and all though lighter and less bulky like the carradice bag me and my friend Jon took, all the strap began breaking through the trip.

TM have the Bikepack.eu one, almost identical design.

Actually his one that ended up breaking was an Archies, i think?

Was it?the old design are pretty identical.

I cycled with a friend for 2 months and she was riding a fixie I thought she was crazy to attempt it but she did it. I still don't think I'd recommend it, it would still be a lot easier and nicer on a normal bike.

I don't know, different bike required different input, is there's scenario where I wishes I have a geared bicycle? of course, but the majority of time I enjoyed the fixed wheels the best, the only time I didn't were the descent where I regret having a 22t fixed cogs over a 20t freewheel on the flip flop hubs.
It's not as hard as it seemed.

Depends where you are - I did a bit of fixed touring in South Africa earlier this year, and Kwazulu-Natal is not really suited to riding fixed and fully loaded, just too many long hills to make it a decent distance each day.

Thinking of doing 5 days in france with my housemate in august.
I want to do it fixed, and I don't think my gitane is suitable, I really like the look of eds cargo DM, I'm thinking pompino might my only option for similar frames? -

Any bike is suitable, long you got brakes, enough clearance for bigger tyres and a comfortable set-up, can't see why not, even the Dolan precursa would make a great light tourer.
-
• #361
my gitane tops out at 25's id say so not really ideal plus no rear brake

I think this should go on a T-shirt. :)

^^ can you definitely not get a 28 on the back?
Will you be carrying a lot of camping gear and need a rack?
-
• #364
Which cheap fixed frames have two sets of bottle mounts?
Also mudguard eyelets would be a bonus, but not essential

• #365
Is the Pompino out of the picture?

Think i could fit 32 on the rear, theres loads of room., maybe 28 on the front now im having a second look.
and no it'll be hostel touring.

That good to know, no need to pack tent or inflatable mattress, just a lightweight zero degree sleeping bag (if necessary).
Recommended to have a bigger cog (just one tooth) as the extra weight will make your current cog feel like a smaller one.

Pomp is definitely cheap enough, though i would prefere aluminium.
Will be replacing the precursa as a long ride/touring fixed -

It's heavy granted, but it doesn't felt it, I think Jake have one, perhaps worth asking if it okay to borrow it to try it out?
Pompino + carbon CX fork for less than £200, I think the geo of the 52cm fit you well.
If you find your Precursa comfortable, the FXE would be a great alternative as the same as the Precursa but with two bottle mount and mudguard too (with audax fork, can accept up to 32c front and rear).

Cheers ed! Didn't even realise the fxe existed, that's perfect, I'm just planning to swap over the parts and flog the pre cursa
-

They come up every now and then, they're not around last years until Dolan introduced them again a couple months ago.
Good thing they're selling it as matt black too, wish I've waited till they released the FXE.

Have been invited to ride around in France this summer part of it will be in some of the less steep alps, considering doing it fixed.
May have a seta lined up in my size anyway. -
• #373
If you're touring in the Alps why the fuck would you do it fixed?
Possibly the best ever times I have had a on a bike were the downhill parts in the alps, if my touring bike had been fixed it would've been a nightmare. I cannot conceive a single thing good about cycle touring the alps on a fixed touring bike.Of course that's just me.

Because it's hugely enjoyable.
The descent not so.
