Funny, but I think bike shops will be stocking these disk alarm locks by halfway through next year.
Good job too.

'londonfgss ends bicycle crime in london'
i can just see the headlines now....god damn i need to replace my shitty trelock rope lock tho... next weeks paycheck = fag mini plus badass chain.
been lucky so far i guess, good thing my fixed gear is cheap as fuck. would still suck tho.
not once locked up my nice bikes, nor will i ever need to i hope. -

coming back to london for two weeks to see the folks and bringing my bike over.
fag mini plus a cable for the front wheel seems a fair bet.
is it also worth doing the old ball bearing in the stem bolt/ seat bolt? i presume you can get them out at a later date?rule seems to be don't leave your bike unattended while in a pub/ club/ brothel even if locked in a busy place with good locks?
have nice bits on my bike, but generally looks quite ratty, and certainly wont be cleaning it before i come over.
bike theives in auckland really haven't clocked on to the whole track bikes = easy money thing so it's all going to be new to me. if i ve missed anything, any advice greatly apprciated.

A cable for the front wheel can be easily cut with a pair of bolt croppers. It happens all the time, even in lower crime areas of London, even for shitty wheels. Get a mini U lock if you want to keep your wheel. Yes ball bearing/solder in the stem/seat bolt is worth doing, or run an old chain round one rail of your saddle and through your chain, wrapped in an old inner tube.

Yellow for back, orange for front.
The Evo Mini is made out of titanium compare to the Fah Mini in term of weight.
-
• #257
Tut, tut, you should have two completely different locks.
-
• #258
Usually yes, but I don't know what a better alternative than the Evo Mini for the front thought?

battery powered angle grinder would be the perfect tools, I think this is what the theft tend to carry if they're serious about stealing bicycle.
if a test can withstand an angle grinder reasonably well, I'm sure it can deal with handtools.
No lock will stand up to an angle grinder with a half decent cutting disk, if it's thicker it might take a bit longer to get though that's about it. An angle grinder may not be the quickest way to defeat a lock either. Testing against angle grinders is pointless.

did anyone else's evo mini arrive covered in what appears to be a thin film of vaseline?
:( -

angle grinders could give us an incidation to how long it will take to cut the lock off thought, I'd think that be useful, as some lock can be cut within 20 second whether some take 2 minutes.

what's the rationale behind this?

what's the rationale behind this?
two different lock usually require two different tools.
-
• #264
still not sure I understand. What do you mean by 'tools'?
Do you mean if they were going to pick the lock?
-
• #265
2 completely different types of locks could require 2 different tools to break them, or just one, an angle-grinder. Though, not every thief carries those.

...Onguard Brute X4 16.8mm **£24.50 [WARNING**: Issued key combinations are too few.]
http://www.alternativesecurity.org.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=55... have ordered one for my GF.
That was on the 22 Aug... I've contacted them several times and not had a single responce. Now I've started a paypal claim.
Just thought I should give eveyone a general heads up on the quality of service I've received from Alternativesecurity . Make of it what you will.
Also note that they do not have a manned phone to keep costs down so all contact is limited to email.

I've added a section now with Disc Alarm Locks, as this seems to be an important growing method of security. I've included decibel ratings, and I've kept the choices to near/around the £30.oo,or less. I feel that what the much more expensive versions provide, doesn't really apply to bicyclists.
Also added to U-locks from Motrax. Both are less than £30.oo, and one of them is a 19mm lock!!! Prices of steel must be coming down rapidly in China, or this new market is being tested with low prices, and when more popular, the prices will shoot up. It may explain better why my own GRPS 18mm lock is only £14.50.
In case no-one has noticed the significance of this, the MOTRAX lock is 19mm, and only £30.oo!!
Considering it is a company that specializes in motorcycling products, I think its a fair bet that they wouldn't want their reputation ruined by foisting a poor lock upon their motorcycling customers. Its cheap as chips, and thick as hell. Buy it if on a budget, and really worried about your bike security.
It makes me think that Kryptonite and Abus locks are over-priced......

Thanks hugo7. I shall amend the list immediatley with that info. Sorry about your troubles. It seems that at that price, they've simply run out of stock?
Also hugo7, once you get a refund, maybe buy something other than the OnGuard Brute. Though, I still think it may be the BEST lock at that price-point. But since I've bought a 18mm square-taper lock at less than £15.oo, and the Motrax 19mm is £30.oo, you have a lot of choice at that cost now.

Good info on chains/anchors/padlocks/ulocks here: http://www.torc-anchors.com/security-chains.php
This already has a link in the original post on this thread. Look again at the listing for the Pragmasis Protector, and you willsee that the link is to Torc-Anchors. Obviously you're newbie trying to get out of the nursery - fair enough, but at least read the original post for any thread you wish to reply to. It is helpful, honestly.

Good thread this, I now need a new lock, due to the fact that some scrote had a go at my Abus Granit Plus.
Thankfully it held up and so two bikes didn't get nicked from my fire escape last night.
Think I'm gonna invest in an Almax chain for locking up at home and a Fahgeddaboudit mini for out and about...
you might want to have a look at the guys from torc-anchors as they have similar quality chains but as well less hefty ones for bike use. bought my a fine 11mil chain in the new long link design. it makes them a bit lighter compared to the Kryp Fah chains and the round boron steel they use is a bit tougher too. but feel free to go for 13mil or the new 16mil chain :)
verry good service, competitive prices and quick deliveries.

Hey does anyone know wheres the best place to get a Fagheddaboutit Mini D in terms of price?
I need to buy in store because im moving up to Leeds in about four days and dont really wanna order one online for it not to come by the time im gone.
Any suggestions because Evans do them for £90 even though on the link that GA2G posted there only £55, so im assuming i could probably get it somewhere else instore for around that price?
I doubt anyone is selling by any chance?
Cheers

print out the cheapest fahgettiaboutit page from an online bike shop, go to cyclesurgery or equation to 'price match' the lock.
