Hello Cat lovers, I have a question: I have just acquired a 1 year old cat from a rescue home, he is friendly to both humans and other cats. When we got him back to our house he legged it straight behind a book case and stayed for 4 days! Should I leave him to realise things are ok and come out in his own time or should I go and get him? He does eat when i put food in there for him and responds reasonably well to contact. I know he had a tough start in life and I aim to give him a good life, bless him.
Thankyou.
I'll post a pic when i can. -

I'll post a pic when i can.I guess it's better for him to realize things are fine. I doubt forcing him will prove fruitful.
Water and food and time. He should okay.

Let him cool it, in his own time. -

We got an older cat from a rescue home a while back, he hid behind my sisters wardrobe for a day, then ran around hiding behind anything for another day, but within the week he was sitting on our laps happily. Tempt him out with food, let him get used to you.

Let him find his own way round the house, he's just getting used to a new place and is probably a little freaked. Carry on as normal and he'll find his feet, food and hugs are good, but don't force either on him.

Yeah, he likes dairy lea spread, i give him a bit, he laps it up but will only have food on his terms.
We also got a female, she seems fine now, wanders around the house no probs!
I just keep thinking I can go and get him out and he'll realise its aaaaaall OoooKaayyy and it'll be like the good life and ....... -

I'd keep him inside until he's sussed out that this is his new home, might take a few weeks or more. Careful with the dairy products - really ain't good for cats. Try some cat milk from the pet shop instead!

slowly move his food further and further out from his hiding place, inch by inch, and then leave him to eat it in private until he gets his confidence - he'll come round once he realises what a good life he's getting !

Gnipper, not mine but lived with him at my mother-in-law's while I was doing my masters. (I also didn't dress him up but liked the pictures)

Holy shit. How big is that pic?
Yeah he's had that for as long as I can remember. He used to get into a lot of fights, one time he had a massive cut on his throat which just wouldn't heal, twas horrible.
